Reading Interventionist Instructional Assistant/Paraprofessional

Fowler Elementary School District Job Title: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT Classification: Support Personnel Pay Scale Range: I or II depending on qualification Description: The Instructional Assistant I performs a variety of instructional and non-instructional tasks both in and out of the classroom to support the teacher of students who may need extra assistance. Some duties may include the playground setting (duty) where there may be exposure to dirt, dust, and extreme seasonal temperatures. Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent is requiredProvide documentation showing a passing score on the Paraprofessional Assessment- Range ISixty (60) college credit hours /or Associate Arts Degree or higher- Range IIValid Fingerprint Clearance CardKnowledge of the English language including reading, writing and oral communicationKnowledge of Spanish including reading, writing and oral communication is desiredAbility to use of office equipment including computers (Word, Excel) copiers, fax machines and other applicable office equipmentAbility to comprehend and perform functions from written and oral instructionsAbility to exhibit mature judgmentKnowledge of arithmetic and basic mathematic proceduresStrong communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with administration, staff, students, parents and other district personnelAbility to perform playground supervision dutiesMust be an energetic, highly ethical and possess good emotional and physical healthSome experience working with children in an educational setting is preferred Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Governing Board or the Superintendent may deem appropriate Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of the teacherTutor and assist children individually or in small groups to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachersParticipate in team planning of academic curriculum based on individual interests, needs, abilities, student achievement and group dynamicsProvide assistance with the preparation of instructional materialsDistribute and collect tests and homework assignments as directedAssist with supervision and enforcement of rules and procedures for student discipline and classroom managementAssist the staff to continually maintain good student behavior and safety in the classroom, halls, cafeteria, gymnasium, playground and on field tripsAssist with monitoring each student's performance and record relevant data to assess progressAssist the teacher in maintaining an attractive and clean classroomPerform clerical and clean-up duties as assignedAssist with maintaining a positive environment that develops social, emotional and cognitive skills as well as promotes and supports cooperation and learningAssist with the implementation of federal, state and local health and safely policies and proceduresAssist with communicating to parents program policies, changes and eventsAttend parent meetings as directedAssist the teacher in conducting home visits and Parent/Teacher conferences as neededParticipate and assist with outdoor activitiesInstruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materialsProvide assistance with inventory and maintaining equipment and suppliesMeet children at buses or transportation areas as directedWalk children to buses or transportation areas as directedAttend staff meetings as directedParticipate in grade level and/or subject area team meeting as requestedParticipate in Child Study process as requestedEstablish and maintain effective relationships with children, parents and staff members, etcParticipate in district sponsored professional development workshops/inservices, attend on-going training classes as directed, and read professional publications for continued professional developmentMaintain strict confidentiality and use appropriate discretion when working with all district personnel and student and family records and/or informationSupport and follow the rules, regulations and policies set by the School Board, the assigned school and the DistrictPerform all other duties as assigned by the Governing School Board, the Principal or his/her designee Length of Employment: Temporary Position Evaluation: Performance to be evaluated in accordance with Governing Board Policy GDO
