What's The Role About:

We are looking for someone to join our Product Development team. As an R&D Engineer at Puffco, you will be responsible for implementing engineering aspects for the development of our products. This individual will be working closely with other members of our team developing, prototyping, and testing innovative designs, materials, and technologies. The candidate must be a pro-active, strong problem solver. You will analyze and develop highly innovative solutions to complex problems. We are looking for an extremely energetic, creative, self-motivated, hands-on R&D engineer to join our team. This role is located at our downtown Los Angeles, CA office. The hands-on position would suit a self-motivated, results-oriented individual who is comfortable in a casual, but fast-paced, environment.

Some things you will be responsible for:

• Develop and execute test methods, standards and protocols supporting implementation of innovative technologies and designs.
• Contribute to competitive product teardowns and analysis.
• Apply research theories, principles, and models when conducting experiments and research activities.
• Summarize research results and communicate findings to internal and external bodies.
• Assess the scope of research projects and ensure projects are on time and within budget.
• Develop technical documentation for all projects.
• Identify and test new and existing relevant technologies.
• Identify and test relevant materials and manufacturing processes.
• Assist in managing and developing rapid prototyping processes to help develop new products (including 3D printing, laser cutting, etc.)
• Assist with electronics prototyping and testing including hand-population of bare board PCBs with small components.
• Design and assemble "works like" prototypes and supporting test fixtures.
• Plan and execute mechanical design projects to improve product performance, efficiency, cost, etc.
• Collaborate with peers to manage the development of appropriate testing to verify product meets internal and external customer requirements.
• Use advanced techniques to anticipate, identify and develop solutions or alternatives to a variety of common and uncommon problems having a range of complexity.
• Apply fundamental engineering principles to the research and/or development of vaporizer devices/science/technology and/or provide engineering support.
• Assist with installation and preventive maintenance of shared shop equipment.
• Manage, coordinate, and aid with special projects as needed.

Some qualifications and skills we need you to have:

• BS in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience working in research and development or product design.
• Experience with basic laboratory and shop equipment.
• Comfortable working with small parts which require the use of a microscope and/or tweezers to manipulate.
• Maintaining best practices
• Knowledge of fundamental engineering principles and research methods.
• Ability to work on various engineering discipline problems.
• Experience working in a small, fast-paced environment.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to track and resolve issues across multiple programs simultaneously.
• Self-starter and ability to work independently

Additional qualifications that will be nice if you have:

• Experience with various 3D printing technologies and materials including SLA and FDM
• Experience with industrial radiography for product development and/or failure analysis
• Experience using benchtop electronic testing equipment such as multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes.
• Familiarity with electromechanical sensors and data acquisition systems
• Familiarity with UART device communication and Python scripts
• Experience following data logging procedure and diligently ensuring reliable data collection.
• Experience assembling PCBs including the use of solder paste, reflow oven, and soldering iron per IPC standards.
• Experience using SolidWorks or similar CAD SW solutions.
• Familiarity with SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, or other engineering simulation software

Compensation:

The total compensation range for this role for candidates based in CA is $85,000-100,000K

This role is also eligible for an annual bonus.
