Manage raw material procurement activities by ensuring Raw Materials are available to the business when needed, reducing total cost of ownership of Raw Materials, working closely with Operations and Maintenance personnel to discern their needs and provide relevant options, leading and developing a purchasing team to provide continuing value, driving compliance in all aspects, and completing all other objectives as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead procurement efforts to provide required Raw Materials to SSAB
- Ensure compliance for self and direct reports with all SSAB policies, procedures, and guidelines. Support global and divisional procurement initiatives and SSAB's sustainability objectives
- Actively engage all internal customers and effectively interact with external suppliers in a professional and timely manner
- Manage corporate sourcing projects and ensuring cross-functional participation using multi-dimensional selection criteria. Oversee sourcing project execution and confirm that appropriate steps, surveys, and analyses are completed prior to supplier selection.
- Challenge all supplier deals to afford SSAB the most amenable terms and conditions while allowing the supplier to be sustainable. Review written contracts and agreements in detail fully understanding each clause. Confirm approvals by SSAB Legal and relevant business leaders. Confirm all contracts are properly stored in the corporate contract management system, and all auto-notifications are appropriately established.
- Manage the purchasing process and the Buyers' use thereof (requisition to invoice-ready-to-pay) for goods and services on a timely, competitive, and cost effective basis. Provide sustainable cost-savings returns to the business. Create Total Cost of Ownership financial schedules to drive fact-based decision-making.
- Manage inventory levels. Drive inventory reduction and/or managed inventory programs. Approve the disposition of obsolete materials, including selling or obtaining credit from suppliers.
- Strive for continuous improvement of the supply base through supplier performance and relationship management activities. Consider a strategic, long-term view in making thoughtful decisions.
- Ensure purchased quality. Mediate recovery negotiations from suppliers
- Establish and prepare department reporting such as commodity market trackers, budgets, forecasts, inventory updates, and cost savings records.
- Indirectly lead cross-functional sourcing teams
- Responsibilities are not necessarily site specific and will support all of SSAB Americas.
QUALIFICATIONS Competencies and Experience Required:
- 10+ years of procurement experience - to include commodity management across various categories such as: Raw Materials, energy, MRO supplies, component repairs/rebuilds, capital, and services procurement, including inventory management.
- Exceptional integrity with very strong leadership, negotiation and strategic thinking skills
- Demonstrated and outstanding team building, conflict resolution, problem solving, communications,
- Proficient computer skills in Excel, Word, Office and other
- Regular and reliable attendance
- Five years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment
- Five years of experience in a leadership role
Education Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Supply Chain Management or related field
- Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM), Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or an equivalent industry recognized certificate
- Post-graduate degree - MBA

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position operates in an office environment. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and scanners. This role is partially sedentary, however, some handling of materials is required. This would require the ability to walk, bend, kneel, or stand, use of hands to finger, hold and handle, reach with hands and arms and to push / pull, lift or carry items up to 20 lbs.
The employee will occasionally be required to:
- This position would periodically require work in the mill environment with some exposure to heat/cold, walking/stairs, noise and wearing safety equipment/clothing for protection from hazards
- Drive for departmental errands and meetings
