Job Summary

If you're interested in Range Technician roles, then this is the best job for you. The Range Technician’s primary role is to work as part of a team to move several herds of cattle daily in a scientifically based, management-intensive grazing program. This job demands that you are physically active and is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience with management-intensive grazing, learn ranch-hand skills, and work outside for the summer. The Range Technician is managed by the Senior Range Technician, and will be working with multiple lessees, the ranch manager, and a range ecologist.

Job Description

• Responsibilities
  • Move several herds of cattle daily.
  • Monitor pasture use and regrowth.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and perform all work in a safe manner.
  • Protect natural resources – understand the ranch’s objectives and implement them every day on the ground.
• Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Setting up and removing temporary electric fence
  • Selecting pasture size and configuration
  • Driving a UTV
  • Monitoring and record keeping
  • Additional duties may include fence repair, installing gates, using a brush hog, performing organic weed control treatments, cleaning ditches to deliver water, and more.
• The ranch is managed for ranching and conservation purposes. The ranch’s objectives are to:
  • Balance Objectives with Lessee Goals and Ranch Budget
  • Achieve Proper Functioning Condition (PFC) on State Lands Creek
  • Restore Healthy Aspen Stands
  • Restore Healthy and Diverse Wet Meadow Communities
  • Improve Fishing Access
  • Develop Multi-purpose Wetland Complexes for Stock Water, Water birds and Wildlife.

Skills Required

• Ability to pass pre-employment MVR Check
• Hard working, dependable, flexible, good attitude, and ready to learn.
• Learn and complete repetitive tasks independently and as part of a team.
• Perform manual labor outdoors for 8 consecutive hours (i.e., walking through variable terrain, lifting, and carrying 50lbs)
• Accurately and consistently record information on a daily basis.
• Comfortable with cattle
• Minimum age 18
• Excited to learn about innovative, science-based, and ecologically beneficial cattle management.
• Previous ranching/farming/cattle experience
• Familiarity or experience with an intensive grazing program
• ATV/UTV operation experience
• Ecological monitoring experience

Education/Training/Certifications

• High School Diploma/GED required.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to pass drug screen & criminal background check.
• Valid driver's license.
• Worker Shift Start Time: AM - 07:00 AM
• Is driving required for this position? Yes - Field Equipment Operator (Harvester, Tractor, Cutter, Puller, etc.)
