Wärtsilä’s Energy Business is looking for a Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety Engineer for the Energy Storage & Optimization business. The role will be part of the Architecture & Systems Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth. As a RAMS Engineer within Wartsila, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and optimal performance of our cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage Systems. These systems are critical components of our sustainable energy solutions, contributing to grid stability, renewable energy integration, and emergency backup power.
Preferred location(s) for this position is Wärtsilä’s location in Herndon, VA or Toronto, Canada. You could also work remote, in the eastern or central time zones.
Minimum Requirements:
Able to represent the company in technical meetings with vendors, customers, and other government authorities
Strong understanding of RAMS engineering activities
Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment
Able to work with global team members and vendors in different time zones
Familiar with calculation methodologies for reliability and availability

Responsibilities:
System Reliability and Availability:
Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (including design, development, and operations) to define and establish RAMS objectives for BESS products.
Conduct reliability assessments, failure mode analysis, and predictive modeling to ensure robust system performance.
Evaluate system availability, uptime, and downtime scenarios to meet stringent industry standards.
Safety Compliance:
Assess safety risks associated with BESS components, installations, and operations.
Develop safety plans, hazard analyses, and mitigation strategies.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations and guidelines.
Maintainability and Serviceability:
Design and implement maintenance strategies for BESS components.
Optimize maintenance schedules, spare parts management, and repair processes.
Collaborate with field service teams to enhance system maintainability.
Failure Analysis and Root Cause Investigations:
Investigate failures, anomalies, and incidents related to BESS.
Identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
Implement continuous improvement initiatives based on lessons learned.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare RAMS documentation, including reliability reports, safety assessments, and maintenance procedures.
Communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders, project managers, and regulatory bodies.
Quality Assurance:
Work closely with quality assurance teams to ensure adherence to RAMS standards during BESS development and deployment.
Participate in design reviews and validation activities.
Mandatory Requirements:
Educational Background:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in RAMS engineering, preferably with exposure to energy storage systems, power electronics, or renewable energy technologies.
Familiarity with industry standards such as IEC 61508, IEC 62380, and ISO 26262.
Techincal Skills
Proficiency in reliability analysis tools (e.g., Weibull analysis, fault tree analysis).
Knowledge of safety assessment methods (e.g., HAZOP, FMEA).
Understanding of battery technologies, inverters, and control systems.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication skills to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Detail-oriented and committed to quality.

For applicants that reside in NY, the salary range/hourly wage range is $81,634 - $151,606.
The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Eligibility to participate in: the discretionary incentive plan assigned to the level of position upon offer of employment; medical, dental and vision coverage, 401(k) plan and flexible spending accounts, subject to plan terms; Company-paid benefits such as life insurance, short- and long-term disability, subject to applicable waiting periods. Paid time off (PTO) is accrued on a per-pay period basis in accordance with tenure in the Company; a new hire can expect 17 days per year. Twelve (12) Company-paid holidays.
