Job description

Job Summary:
Produces radiographs of various anatomical parts for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Orthopedic Physician.
TECHNICAL STANDARDS
Essential Functions: Defined as duties specific to the job, that, if removed, would change the entire purpose of the job; to include the Essential Physical Demands and Essential Working Conditions of this position.
I. Core Essential Functions:
  1. Regular, consistent, on-site, and timely attendance.

"Ability to perform the Essential Functions on the Physical Conditions chart; and the ability to perform the Essential Functions on the Working Conditions chart (see attached charts)"
II. Specialty Essential Functions:
  1. Verifies pertinent data about the patient and procedure.
    1. Verifies patient identification using two identifiers.
    2. Verifies the physician order.
    3. Reviews the physician order to determine the optimal imaging procedure for suspected pathology.
    4. Verifies the patient's pregnancy status when appropriate.
  2. Provides information to the patient about the procedure.
    1. Verifies the patient has consented to the procedure.
    2. Provides accurate explanations and instructions at a level the patient understands.
  3. Analyzes the information obtained during assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis.
    1. Assesses factors that may contraindicate procedure.
    2. Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices.
  4. Obtains optimum images during exam/procedure.
    1. Sets adjusts radiographic equipment.
    2. Positions patients to obtain diagnostic images per physician direction.
    3. Utilizes equipment to maximize images.
    4. Develops films for review by the physician.
    5. Maintains storage of developed films.
  5. Documents accurate information about patient and exam.
    1. Accurately marks films with patient identifiers, name/SSN
    2. Accurately marks films with R & L or other markers per protocol.
  6. Maintains equipment and workstation in optimum condition.
    1. Performs daily QC on radiographic equipment.
    2. Assure adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained.
  7. Performs other duties of medical assistant and/or medical secretary on an as needed basis within physician office setting to ensure an efficient work flow for Orthopedic practice.
    1. Checks in patient by gathering the appropriate demographic information and verification of same
    2. Assists physician/physician assistant/extended by rooming patients and prepares x-ray image for viewing in exam room
    3. Assists physician/physician assistant/extended as needed to ensure expedition of patient care
    4. Checks out patient by scheduling return appointment as necessary
    5. Calls for authorization of MRI and surgical procedures as needed
    6. May complete forms/faxes as necessary as they regard to the patients treatment and follow up
    7. May assist in surgical scheduling as needed

III. Marginal Functions: Defined as duties that are not essential in nature and do not take a considerable amount of time to complete (less than 10%).
  1. Performs other duties as required.

IV. Required Skills and Knowledge: Minimum level of education, skills and abilities necessary in performing the job.
Education:
  • Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology Program.

Certification / Licensure / Regulation:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI CLearance

  • Registry eligible upon hire. Must have ARRT certification within one year of date of hire.

Prior Experience:
  • Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years)

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Basic working knowledge of computers and office equipment
