Pacific Clinics serves children, transitional age youth, families, adults, and older adults. We offer a full range of mental and behavioral health services, foster care and social services, housing, continuing adult education and early childhood education programs to Medi-Cal eligible individuals and families throughout Alameda, Contra Costa, Fresno, Kings, Los Angeles, Madera, Orange, Placer, Riverside, Sacramento, San Bernardino, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Solano, Stanislaus, Stockton, Tulare and Ventura Counties.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general direction of the Team Supervisor or the Program Director, the Family Specialist provides support to the Children, Youth and Family Prevention or Service Team, The Family Specialist offers a unique perspective for families because they have training and/or first-hand experience in culturally competent parenting approaches, children and youth behavioral prevention services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conducts outreach, liaison and coordination activities with youths, parents, school personnel, law enforcement authorities, business persons, faith community leaders, local government officials, and other relevant community leaders and members to maintain effective working relationships and to ensure appropriate referral and linkage of target children, youth, and families as appropriate.

• Helps to educate parents/caregivers and teach them to develop the necessary skills to effectively parent their children and/or advocate for themselves, and/or their children as.

• Plans and implements the piloting of the children and youth behavioral prevention programs (including community awareness activities and skill-based curriculum groups).

• Facilitates self-help parent support groups and other groups as appropriate.

• Prepares and develops necessary printed materials in English and Asian languages.

• Attends meetings for support and/or advocacy at the parent’s request (such as Children’s Court, Individualizes Education Plan (IEP), etc.).

• Encourages children, youth, and parents to meet their service needs through matching strengths with tasks.

• Provides field contacts at home, school, and the community to promote stabilization and further support.

• Maintains accurate documentation of services delivered in accordance with CMHS requirements, and Pacific Clinics’ policies and guidelines.

• Submits service data and reports in an accurate and timely manner to supervisor.

• Provides transportation to project participants on an as-needed basis.

• Coordinates with the Program Evaluation Team in their implementation of the data collection process.

• Receives and makes constructive use of supervision.

• Drives Agency-provided or personal vehicles for program participants, staff and others as needed.

• Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.

• Models Pacific Clinics’ approach, mission and core values in all communication and correspondence.

• Communicates effectively in a culturally competent and diverse consumer population

and promotes favorable interaction with managers, co-workers and others.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/INTERACTION:

Initiate and maintain professional interactions and communication with Clinic’s employees and/or others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE/POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor of Arts degree or two (2) years related experience with chronically mentally ill populations and/or in social services related field.

• Trained in culturally competent parenting approaches, and/or in children and youth behavioral prevention services is required.

• Demonstrated experience and ability to relate to a culturally diverse clientele and staff.

• Must demonstrate ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Bilingual skills in the appropriate language for the Clinics’ and program’s clients are highly preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to work in Windows environment (including Word and Excel).

• Must possess a valid California driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record under the Clinics' liability policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand or sit. The employee is required to use hands to produce records and/or documentation in manual or electronic format. . The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally move or lift up to 10 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Local business travel is required.
