Description:
The Radiation Effects Engineer (Electronics) will support flight development projects as the focal engineer for Ionizing Radiation (IR) effects on Electrical, Electronic and Electromechanical (EEE) parts. This work includes coordinating the development of project IR environments, developing project IR requirements, developing project IR Control Plans, and working with designers and a senior expert to select EEE parts that survive anticipated IR environments. Duties may include (but are not limited to):
- Participate in design reviews and verification work.
- Support projects in early phases to evaluate the radiation risk protocol, and recommend processes to support the protocol.
- Coordinate with NASA Natural Environments Branch to develop the radiation environments specification based on the project’s concept of operation documents.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance
- Candidate must be a US Citizen
- Must have a BS in an Engineering or STEM field with 15 years of experience, MS in Engineering/STEM with 13 years of experience, or PhD in Engineering/STEM with 10 years of experience
- Extensive experience with the effects of ionizing radiation on electronics and electronic components, including experience with NASA or Military Standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with NASA design specifications and standards.
- Ability to interpret test results and prepare technical reports and presentations for internal use, project office use, government publications, and relevant scientific publications.
- Ability to review and comment on radiation requirements of military specifications, and standard microcircuit drawings.
- Ability to review and comment on radiation-related JEDEC and test standards.
- Ability to support research of radiation test capabilities.
- Familiarity with military, automotive and industrial EEE part specifications.
- Ability to provide radiation assurance support to the NASA Electronic Parts and Packaging Program.
