Quarterly Adjunct Lecturer-Applied Mathematics (Pool)

Purpose:
Purpose:
The School of Engineering seeks a dynamic Quarterly Adjunct lecturer (QAL) for the 2023-2024 academic year to teach graduate level AMTH courses. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, as well as a dedication to the well-being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the School.
Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system. Each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) is 10 weeks long, with an extra week for final examinations. Graduate classes are offered 7:00-9:00 am, 5:00-7:00 pm, and 7:00-9:00 pm.
QALs are allowed to teach up to 4 course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year with no more than 2 CEs in any particular quarter.
Additionally, QALs are allowed to teach an additional 2 CEs during the summer terms. A 2 unit lecture equals 2/3 CE.
Generally, course equivalencies are:
UNDERGRADUATE:
4 unit lecture = 1 CE
1 unit lab = 0.5 CE
1 unit lab with a teaching assistant (TA) = 0.25
GRADUATE:
4 unit lecture = 1 CE
2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE
Basic Qualifications:
Earned Ph.D. Degree in mathematics or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated excellence in teaching, specifically in Statistics.
Responsibilities:
Teach one or more graduate applied mathematics classes and participate in all related activities, including:
1. Prepare and conduct all assigned class meetings
2. Assign and evaluate/grade student work appropriately
3. Be available to students for consultation outside of class
4. Assign student grades appropriately and submit them on time to the Office of Student Records
5. Conduct course assessments as required by the department
6. Complete and submit time cards every two weeks
7. Comply with university and school policies, including those delineated in the School of Engineering Term Faculty Handbook
Special Instructions to Applicants:
All QAL faculty must apply via Workday once each academic quarter to be hired as a QAL faculty. Your letter of application must include letter of interest, the specific courses you are interested in teaching that match your expertise, and contact information for three references.

Hiring is made on a quarterly basis. The first class dates for the 2023-2024 academic year are:
Fall 2023 - Monday September 18, 2023
Winter 2024 - Monday, January 8, 2024
Spring 2024 - Monday, April 2, 2024
Summer 2024 - Monday, June 20, 2024
