Art History Quarterly Adjunct Lecturer

$8502 per 4 or 5 unit course
Purpose:
PURPOSE:
The Department of Art and Art History at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, invites applications for a Quarterly Adjunct Lecturer (non-tenure-track) to teach an undergraduate course in Art History. Specific assignments will be made according to the academic qualifications of the individual and programmatic need. The successful candidate will teach one course in the Spring quarter. The schedule for this position consists of teaching one Art! Making China Modern on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:10-1:50pm. The Spring quarter is 10 weeks long, with an 11th week set for final examinations. This quarterly position is from March 1 to June 30, 2024.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1). Terminal degree (Ph.D./MFA) in Art History or a closely-related field. Applicants who are ABD or possess a Master's degree, accompanied by commensurate academic experience in Art History or a closely-related field (5-7 years of college or professional teaching) will be considered.
2). Demonstrated excellence in teaching Art History at the college level.
3). Excellent communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1). Demonstration of inclusive pedagogical practices that advance SCU goals of diversity and equity.
2). Demonstrated experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
TEACHING (100%)
Teaching duties include but are not limited to:
Fulfilling all responsibilities associated with assigned courses, including:
a. Teaching a course load of no more than two courses per quarter, and no more than four per academic year;
b. Conducting and appearing at all assigned class meetings in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively;
c. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning outcomes, and providing timely feedback to students;
d. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus;
e. Submitting student grades that are appropriate, accurate and fair measures of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated
f. Administering numerical and narrative evaluations for all courses;
g. Where applicable, teaching from an approved syllabus for the University Core courses assigned or working with the Chair to design an appropriate syllabus for submission for approval from the relevant Faculty Core Curriculum Committee.
SERVICE
This position does not require any service duties. You may be invited, but not required, to attend department meetings or activities.
