Our Quantum Engineering and Computing group, located in Cambridge, MA, is seeking a theoretical/computational intern for innovation and analysis of quantum optical networking and sensing protocols.
What You Will Do
The candidate will join a highly entrepreneurial group advancing and executing projects in quantum and other novel computing architectures, optics and photonics, and advanced materials research. The candidate will support efforts to push the boundaries of Quantum Information Science via calculations and simulations of next-generation optical technologies such as entanglement-enhanced distributed sensors and quantum networks.
An ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a Masters or PhD program in areas such as Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Information Science, Optics, etc. Theoretical background in the theory of quantum optics is required, including optical coherence theory. Experience/prior work involving quantum computing, quantum memories, estimation theory, and analysis of quantum network protocols will be advantageous.
The candidate may also support planning and preliminary analyses for transitioning theoretical findings into experimental investigations, so a candidate with experience photonic entanglement generation and optical interferometry would be a plus.

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

What You Will Need
- 1+ years experience in theoretical/computational quantum optics research
- Ability to perform computations/simulations in MATLAB and/or Mathematica
- Independence to work with intermittent supervision
- Eagerness to quickly learn about new topics and develop new skills
- Currently enrolled in a Master's or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
Additional Desired Skills
- Familiarity with quantum networks
- Experience in analysis of quantum repeater systems
- Experience with Monte Carlo simulations
- Working knowledge of experiment control, data acquisition, and data analysis
