Job Description
Summary:
Direct reporting to the Quality Manager responsible for the quality of grain based product produced during scheduled work hours throughout the sampling, analytical test and result analysis.
The role requires complete adherence to Miller Milling Company’s Food Safety, Safety, and Quality policies and expectations through successful completion of training and demonstrated in practice. Interacts with other departments to communicate testing results.
NOTE: This is a second shift position, 12:00pm - 8:00pm. Pay Range $23-26.50 hr
Primary Duties:
Quality Analysis
- Perform chemical, physical and instrumentation testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process ingredients, finished product and R&D samples to ensure specifications are met.
- Ensure that daily production meets all product standards and production schedules.
- Perform analysis on in-process and finished products and review and audit daily tailings report.
- Prepare and analyze all wheat samples brought to the laboratory (including running all required analysis and recording).
- Run manual moistures and ash as needed.
- Insure proper mill control by reviewing and verifying the calibration of all analytical equipment in the laboratory.
- Record data in quality control log, on SharePoint online system as required.
- Communication of out of spec product with mill, and blending personnel.
- Keep the Head Miller informed of milling sample results like ash, protein and moisture.
- Prepare and maintain standard samples current for comparison.
- Perform all testing related to internal and external Cross Check Programs.
- Verify incoming ingredient supplier Certificate of Analysis.
Administration & Lab Upkeep
- Responsible for cleaning and maintain good housekeeping in the laboratory.
- Maintain minimum stocks of all laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Set-up, plan, research, perform and complete lab projects as required.
- Creation and Submission of Certificates of Analysis to customers and of shipments.
- Perform other responsibilities as requested.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, related fields, or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 1 year experience as laboratory analyst or related experience
- Knowledge in basic laboratory and analytical procedures
- Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent organization skills, and abilities to make decisions on quality issues
- Ability to work any shift and required overtime
