Job description

Leads and coordinates activities for team of employees by performing the following duties.

The Quality Assurance Lead performs inspections and sets quality assurance testing models for analysis of raw materials, materials in process, and finished products. Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision and typically reports to a Quality Supervisor or Quality Manager.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Regularly monitors each team member’s adherence to safe work practices and Company’s safety policies as well as all quality practices and initiatives.
  • Provides leadership to ensure employees demonstrate appropriate work skills, technical accuracy, efficiency and conformity to company policies.
  • Meets with group leaders to determine daily and weekly work priorities and adjusts work activities accordingly.
  • Prepares employee schedules and authorizes absences or overtime in order to meet work requirements.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in written form.
  • Serves as contact person for other Group and Team Leaders to answer questions or concerns affecting multiple departments.
  • Relays and shares information with employees and other departments in a timely manner.
  • Monitors, and presents Quality Charts to area(s) of responsibility to resolve internal and external issues.
  • Schedules meetings with staff and attends meetings with other departments to ensure optimum communication.
  • Provides positive and negative feedback to employees both verbally and in writing as necessary.
  • Documents feedback through Confirmation of Conversations (COC) form.
  • Conducts annual performance reviews for employees effectively and timely.
  • Ensures employees receive appropriate training necessary to meet and exceed job expectations.
  • Coaches employees requiring additional support and training.
  • Assists employees wanting to proceed to the next level of job pay range.
  • Monitors production to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Reinforces the use of work instructions and other documentation to ensure that quality standards for fit, function and appearance are met every time.
  • Defines, documents, implements, and monitors quality plans for area(s) of responsibility.
  • Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
  • Works with newly hired and/or transferred employees to ensure they thoroughly understand and properly perform their job duties in accordance with the work instructions.
  • Provides training to production workers to help identify defective raw materials and finished goods.
  • Spends a reasonable percentage of time focused on process improvement.
  • Lead/Support continuous improvement projects to drive performance to world class levels.  Select improvement projects based on internal and customer metric performance to goal.  Utilize best practice methodologies (trend/pareto/action, DMAIC, PDCA, etc.) to obtain results.
  • Utilizes production management tools such as visual aides to monitor processes.
  • Participates in ongoing training and other company programs to develop leadership and job skills when available.
  • Works side by side with team approximately 50% of work time.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leads team of employees.

Must mentor and provide help develop co-workers in Quality Department and in production.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Knowledge of products and manufacturing processes.
Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
Able to coordinate multiple departments for a single outcome.
Familiar with the use of standard measuring equipment.

Must have strong self initiative.

Excellent problem solving skills.

Show high levels of leadership potential.

Minimum of 2 years Quality Department Experience (preferred).


LANGUAGE / COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Effective written and verbal English communication skills necessary.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, decimals, fractions, averaging and, percentages.


REASONING ABILITY
Ability to work independently with limited guidance from supervisor.
Problem resolution capabilities.
Able to make common sense decisions based on knowledge at hand.
Can differentiate between black/white specifications and business decisions.
Able to follow a logical train of thought to recreate events.
Ability to forecast outcomes based on different input and actions (action-reaction).

Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize.
Ability to assess situations and make appropriate decisions.
Mechanical aptitude a plus.
