Quality & Technical Services Manager
What you will do
Responsible for the assurance of product quality and quality operating system conformance per the customer and corporate quality requirements. Directs Plant Quality Assurance efforts with emphasis on identification and solution of process, material or labor problems that could compromise customer and internal quality commitments. Direct/mentor the quality team consisting of Quality Engineers, Quality Supervisors, Quality Techs, Auditors/Inspectors, Tech Lab and Customer Engineers. Facilitate customer communications that effectively represent Clarios direction ensuring Clarios cross function alignment.
How you will do it
• Accountable for Plant Quality Control Systems to insure that controls are functioning in the areas of process, purchased material and final product quality to maintain internal and external quality costs while ensuring customer expectations are met.
• Drive Customer Satisfaction KPI and Cost of Quality metrics attainment through process capability and control verification, quality system conformance actions and continuous improvement roadmaps towards OEM and internal customer scorecard objectives and customer perception through Quality basics execution.
o Customer requirements, FMEA/RPN reduction, Control Plan, Stable process (process capability, control, change management), inspection & test, containment, problem solving, layered/internal audits, management reviews and training
o Robust daily/weekly process monitoring & PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act)
o Support/Lead Customer audits, escalations and relationship
• Conduct robust problem solving (8D/error proofing, containment actions, root cause analysis, corrective action plan - implementation and verification);
• Drive site quality continuous improvement actions throughout the value chain using KPI's to ensure the site has robust processes to receive good, make good, ship good driven with objectives of meeting the voice of customer;
• Enable robust launch APQP/PPAP/Safe Launch activity and launch preparedness in the facility by coordinating with AQE, Supplier Quality, Product Engineering, Operations, Supply chain & Program Launch teams.
o Drive gated reviews of launch quality plans and actions towards timely attainment of launch gate deliverables and PPAP
• Ensure full APQP process adherence including PFMEA, control plans, RPN Reduction, MSA study & robust PPAP encompassing customer specific requirements on product, process and system
• Oversee the development, implementation and maintenance of the quality system based on TS/IATF-16949 & Customer Specific Requirements.
• Drive rigor and follow-up on Internal and Layered process audits for conformance to quality system basics
o Maintain quality Control Plan adherence and continuous improvement based on requirements, lessons learning and process improvements and change events
o Establish and control quality documents, samples, customer contact, supplier development, production start - up, product launch, poke-yoke, gages, correction of production variances and warrant analysis.
• Direct Customer and Supplier liaisons for plant quality activities and concerns including scheduled visits; ensure timely communication, containment, corrective and preventive actions, chargeback/cost recovery management
• Inspire, educate, coach, train on customer focus, problem solving, project management, quality system aspects for all site members
• Manage entire quality department on day-to-day basis ensuring adherence to customer specifications and requirements. Including the role of product safety management and quality management representative
• Develop and maintain high performing quality functional organization with leadership standard work, data driven, accountability, and training/certification for QE, Q Supervisors, Auditors, Inspectors, and Technicians.
• Team with Plant Management to achieve desired results.
• Direct or assist in the selection, hiring and training of Quality Engineers and Quality Technicians.
• Interface with customers and supplier both OEM and aftermarket to resolve quality issues/concerns.
• Reports on Quality at all Plant Management reviews.
• Drives Cost of Quality improvements. Project management in areas involving Quality.
What we look for
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other technical field.
• 7+ years of QA management experience in a manufacturing environment; automotive highly preferred.
• 5+ yrs. in a Management or Supervision position of Quality;
• TS/IATF-16949 experience required
• Has experience with managing launches, has led transformation projects from poor performance to meeting customer expectations, strengthened the bench strength of the organization
• Has good understanding of Customer specific requirements including OEM audits, problem resolution, change management, OEM portals/ scorecards and ways of working expectations
• Multiyear experience Managing the customer, including crisis management of potential product concerns
• Facilitate continuous improvement and lean manufacturing using formal quality systems methodology and tools.
• Development and implementation of quality systems and standards (FMEA's, PPAP, control Plans, DVP&R's, APQP);
• Highly organized, self-starter and professional team-player with attitude to drive the execution of the actions to attain Quality targets (concerns, PPM, Cost of Quality, Internal and OEM audits, supplier quality and Field Performance)
• A visible leader that champions change through teamwork, develops talent and plans for succession; and not afraid to do the Right thing despite unpopular decisions with significant time on the shop floor.
