Quality Inspector

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Ensure a safe and harassment and discrimination free work environment by following and enforcing all safety rules and procedures, all company policies, applicable laws, and Precision Values
- Provide cultural stewardship
- Perform ground inspections, gate inspections, and interchange inspections
- Thoroughly inspect the exterior and interior of each unit before it is handled/scanned into inventory
- Ensure meticulous documentation of any areas with damage using the appropriate codes on the handheld scanner
- Photograph all damage found on exterior or interior of the vehicle
- Complete all procedures in a professional manner following the regulations put in place by the AAR and the customer
- Inspect facilities, machinery, loading equipment, customers vehicles, rail cars, employee attire to identify and correct potential, damages and to ensure damage free and quality shipment for customers
- Establish quality audit inspections, standards, and corrective actions to ensure site compliance with all company, customer, local, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines
- Conduct on-site damage/quality audits for all locations on a scheduled frequency and report findings to leadership
- Ensure compliance to audit inspection standards and work with site personnel and vendors to answer findings and complaints in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
- Review claim reports and follow up in the field as necessary
- Recommend processes that will enhance the customer experience
- Assist leadership during customer meetings/calls to discuss damage/quality concerns/issues and possible mitigation procedures
- Monitor, revise, and implement ongoing updates in automotive damage and quality regulations, laws or reporting requirements
- Assist with the enforcement of regulatory regulations and company policies
- Establish quality audit inspections, standards, and corrective actions to ensure site compliance with all company, customer, local, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines
- Conduct on-site damage/quality audits for all locations on a scheduled frequency and report findings to leadership
- Ensure compliance to audit inspection standards and work with site personnel and vendors to answer findings and complaints in a timely, efficient, and professional manner
- Review claim reports and follow up in the field as necessary
- Recommend processes that will enhance the customer experience
- Assist leadership during customer meetings/calls to discuss damage/quality concerns/issues and possible mitigation procedures
- Assist in the identification, development, and administration of company damage and quality training programs
- Administer quality training and ensure all newly hired employees, temporary employees, contractors, visitors receive proper training
- Re-train teams on inspection tools and proper protocols as needed
- Go over the inspection bulletins on the PRC available in the “Quality” tab
- Question teams in the field about proper inspection etiquette
- Provide technical quality support and information to all employees
- Coordinate and administer quality training initiatives for the company to ensure compliance with AAR, AIGA and all other regulatory requirements
- All other duties as required for quality and damage free operations as assigned by manager
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proven strong foundation and knowledge of baying, loading/unloading, and securement of finished vehicles
- Strong interpersonal skills: active listening, effective verbal and written communication skills, coaching skills, conflict resolution, and crisis management
- Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment, both union and non-union environments
- Strong presentation and training skills
- Demonstrated project management skills with strong service orientation
- Proven acuity in MS office suite, internet, and database management
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar
- Ability to analyze and use individual judgment to determine whether audits comply with laws, regulations, or standards
- Must pass driver eligibility requirements
- Ability to pass a drug screen
- Ability to pass a criminal background check
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
- The employee is required to converse and listen in office and industrial settings (indoor & outdoor; noise level is high at times).
- The employee is frequently required to move about on concrete and uneven surfaces for extended periods of time (4-8 hours).
- The employee is required to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- The employee is required to conduct themselves safely while working in an active shipping yard.
- The employee is required to safely enter and exit customer cars, railcars, and other equipment.
- The employee is occasionally required to travel by car or air.
- The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, ascend or descend ladders safely at heights of 10 feet or more, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and adjust focus
