Job Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for supporting quality team efforts to assure the production of quality products throughout QualServ Solutions International facilities. Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the quality management systems processes and procedures throughout the organization. Promote voice of the customer, employee participation in quality objectives, and drive continuous improvement. Assist with reduction of internal and external cost of quality. Work with suppliers on improving incoming raw material and finished product quality metrics, where applicable.
Responsibilities:
Take lead the role in assisting the quality group to accomplish key objectives and the completion of tasks including:
- root cause analysis and corrective actions on key issues,
- promote communication between manufacturing and engineering through ECR process,
- develop and maintain quality check points throughout the production process,
- develop standard operating procedures, work instructions, and post part tolerances for critical operations,
- assist in implementation of error proofing through creation of jigs, gauges, visual signals, etc., and
- develop and implement visual guidelines for part inspection. (Scratches, dents, dings, and other imperfections).
Prepare quality system documentation and complete failure mode and effects analysis for certain product lines, where applicable.
Lead first article inspections on new products
Qualify new vendors of manufactured components and sub-assemblies, where applicable, and develop necessary inspection criteria on the components.
Participate in cross-functional core team meetings on new opportunities.
Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing and work methods.
Meet with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures and cost.
Assist with the analysis and planning of space requirements, workflow, and design layout of equipment and workplace for maximum efficiency.
Maintain records of First Pass Yield and rework performance data and generate weekly reports on results.
Participate in evaluation of equipment, make recommendations, and provide justification for capital expenditures.
Knowledge of industry codes and standards such as UL, NSF, NEC codes.
Maintain appropriate documentation in preparation for random inspection from each respective authority.
Performance Expectations:
Must display proficient computer skills including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Must have strong communication and written skills working in a team environment. This includes follow-up on project status.
Have strong technical analytical and reasoning skills.
Ability to work on multiple projects at one time.
Ability to work with and train multiple levels of manufacturing personnel.
Education and Experience:
Two plus years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing or industrial facility.
B.S. degree in Quality Management, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or other related technical fields is preferred.
Experience in developing/documenting standard operating procedures and work instructions.
Experience using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or other design software is a plus.
Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques is a plus.
Experience with metal cutting, forming, welding, and fabrication is a plus.
Experience with CNC wood cutting, laminating, milling and millwork assembly is a plus.
Automotive quality experience or ISO certification background is a plus.
