Health Technician Ortho/Prosthetics

The primary purpose of the position is to support the clinical and administrative functions of VISN 10 CFU and Prosthetics Sensory Aids Service (PSAS). The incumbent works under supervision of the Production supervisor. The primary purpose of the position is to perform technical work in the VISN 10 CFU - and assist in the design, fabrication, repair, and modification the many varieties of orthotic devices prescribed by a physician.Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/23/2024.
For GS-5:

• Specialized Experience: You must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Communication and interpersonal relations, including the ability to appropriately and courteously relate to internal and external customers. Maintenance of confidentiality of patient/employee information, electronic and print; Knowledge of the mechanical function of prosthetic and sensory aids appliances. Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Ability to read and understand prescriptions and orthotic procedures to unde1take the fabricating of orthotic appliances. Knowledge of the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Prosthetic and Sensory Aids Service mission, regulations, and policies regarding eligibility for treatment, as they are necessary to adequately determine a patient's eligibility/entitlement for equipment.

Substitute Education for Experience: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position. NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with application. Education cannot be credited without documentation.

Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.
Applicants may have a combination of education and experience to qualify at this level. Experience and education as described above must equate to one year of experience. Physical Requirements: The position demands a moderate degree of exertion and a high degree of dexterity, long periods of standing and long-distance walking from clinic to clinic may be required.
Other physical demands will include but not limited to; bending, kneeling, some lifting (not to exceed 50 lbs.) and work with some power tools.
