BASIC PURPOSE:

This position ensures that incoming material, parts, products, and services are consistent with established standards & customer specifications as well as providing supervision for the Quality technicians, Metrology Lab, and support to the Quality Manager. Manage the Material Review Board (MRB), First Article Inspection (FAI), Positive Material Inspection (PMI), Manufacturing/Material Problem Report (MPR), internal & supplier Non-conforming (NC), and the internal & supplier Corrective Action (CA) processes. Lead and train Quality & Manufacturing personnel on problem solving methodology to resolve internal & external quality issues.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES OF JOB:

  • Supervises, leads, and develops team of Quality Technicians including training needs of Quality Technicians.
  • Ensures that procedures & work instructions pertaining to Quality Control are up to date and relevant.
  • Ensures established Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for Quality are being achieved.
  • Provides support and timely response to Manufacturing Problem Reports (MPRs) to help minimize production downtime.
  • Initiates containment activities for suspect and/or non-conforming material.
  • Defines and uses appropriate analysis tools to identify quality improvements (process flow analysis, work sampling, Lean principles, pareto charts, statistical analysis).
  • Adheres to and promotes ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.
  • Facilitate internal testing (FTIR samples, PMI orders, FAIs, PAPs, and other requests).
  • Oversees and monitors the inspection/testing of materials, parts, & products for timely completion.
  • Ensures calibration of internal measurement tools (e.g. calipers, ring gages) are completed on time.
  • Organize and facilitate Material Review Board (MRB) meetings for reviewing non-conforming product including the preparation, disposition activities, and follow-up communication.
  • Issue & review internal & supplier corrective actions for timeliness and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate rework and sorting activities related to MPRs and NCRs.
  • Ensures inspection plans are created and updated for items requiring incoming inspection.
  • Supports continuous improvement activities and product/process audits.
  • Drive problem solving activities and applicable corrective actions related to quality improvements.
  • Maintain SQDC metrics (reports).
  • Ensures 5S standards are being followed and audits compliance within department.
  • Performs ancillary duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma (college degree preferred)
  • 5 years’ experience in Quality or manufacturing/quality related discipline
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 Quality standard
  • Problem Solving methodology experience
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and be able to manage time effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills
  • Ability to write & review technical reports (corrective actions, NCRs, and test reports)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings for mechanical parts
