Quality Assurance (QA) Intern is a temporary position within AVT for a student in their junior year of college or graduate courses. The student will gain practical experience in the field of quality assurance. Quality assurance is a critical component of ensuring that products or services meet established standards and quality benchmarks. In addition student will be involved in the context of security and compliance with government regulations; and to ensure the security of AVT’s facilities, personnel, and sensitive information.This position is part-time and will not exceed 29hrs per week. Expected hours are 25-29 hours per week. This is for a Spring 2024 internship (starting January 2024) with a possibility of extension.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
  • Testing and Inspection: Often involved in testing products, software, or services to identify defects, errors, or issues. This includes both manual testing and, in many cases, automated testing.
  • Documentation: Keeping thorough records of test results, defects found, and steps taken to resolve issues is crucial. This documentation helps in tracking progress and maintaining quality records.
  • Quality Control: Ensuring that products or services adhere to established quality standards and specifications. This may involve creating and executing test cases and checklists.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with QA Manager, developers, and other team members to communicate issues and collaborate on solutions.
  • Bug Reporting: Identifying and documenting software or product defects and reporting them to the development team. Clear and detailed bug reports are essential for resolving issues efficiently.
  • Test Planning: Participating in the development of test plans and strategies to ensure comprehensive testing coverage.
  • Automation: Exposed to automated testing tools and frameworks, learning how to create and run automated test scripts.
  • Regression Testing: Conducting regression testing to ensure that new updates or changes do not introduce new issues or impact existing functionality negatively.
  • Continuous Learning: Staying updated with the latest industry trends, testing methodologies, and tools to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Process Improvement: Contributing ideas and feedback for improving quality assurance processes within the organization.
  • Security Compliance: Responsible for learning and implementing security policies and procedures to ensure that the organization complies with relevant regulations and standards. This may include government regulations like the National Industrial Security Program (NISP) in the United States.
  • Clearance Management: May deal with classified information or government contracts, will assist with the management of security clearances for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Access Control: Oversee access control systems, ensuring that only authorized personnel can enter restricted areas within the facility. This includes managing badge systems and visitor logs.
  • Security Training: Assisting in the development and delivery of security training programs to educate employees about security best practices, classification markings, and reporting procedures.
  • Security Investigations: In the event of security incidents or breaches, may participate in investigations, working with law enforcement and internal teams to identify the cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Physical Security: Learning about and assisting in the management of physical security measures, such as surveillance systems, alarms, and security personnel.
  • Document Control: Ensuring the proper handling, storage, and destruction of sensitive documents and information, especially those classified or sensitive in nature.
  • Security Audits and Inspections: Participating in security audits and inspections, including government audits, to ensure compliance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Emergency Response: Assisting in the development and implementation of emergency response and crisis management plans.
  • Vendor and Contractor Oversight: Verifying the security practices of vendors and contractors who have access to the organization's facilities or sensitive information.
  • Risk Assessment: Conducting security risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and recommend security enhancements.
QualificationsMinimum Requirements
  • Completion of a full course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a Bachelor’s or higher degree. Substitutions: Four (4) years of professional experience can be substituted for two (2) years of the educational requirements.

Essential Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
