Position Objective:
The Quality Assurance Supervisor performs a critical leadership role in our distribution process by ensuring all product received into the warehouse, product slotted and stored, and product shipped to their customers meets or exceeds all quality expectations. This role will supervise and perform continual daily inspections of all products and accept/reject products as needed. Ensures accurate record keeping of product inspection and determines when product should be removed from inventory. Position responsibilities are not limited to the following list:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Build, supervise, and develop the Quality Assurance team and the Repack team. Ensuring that each member of the team loves what they do, adds value to the company, and possesses the skills necessary to do their jobs exceptionally well.
- Supervise and own the safety and well-being of our people; conduct safety meetings and activities to reinforce this culture.
- Develop and deploy communication solutions between departments to ensure all parties are aware of product conditions.
- Train and develop our Quality Assurance/Repack teams on all aspects of product inspection, product knowledge, and the needed duties of the department.
- Responsible for creating and executing policies, procedures (SOPs) and programs that assure products are of superior quality and in compliance with company and industry legal and regulatory agencies.
- Manages and conducts regular product inspection of all coolers and refrigerated warehouse space to ensure quality and proper rotation of products.
- Collaborates with Supply team, receiving, inventory, and production personnel to provide guidance, training, and input on quality standards.
- Oversee product shelf life and package testing.
- Prepare and implement Quality Assurance policies and procedures.
- Perform Quality Control (QC) inspections of inbound containers and local purchases immediately upon their arrival at the company’s warehouse. Lots of all Inbounds will be generated in Famous-Software prior to their arrival. All written inspections along with pictures should be given to the Logistics Coordinator for distribution immediately.
- Based on the condition of any lot upon arrival, if needed, notify the Purchasing Department if a Federal Inspection (USDA) is required. This must be done right away or in less than 24 hours of reception of the lot.
- Coordinate and perform (when needed) a written QC inspection with pictures of each order prior to shipping to ensure they meet company’s and customer’s quality criteria and needs. In addition, a Standard Order Checklist should be filled out for every order.
- Identify and resolve workflow and production issues.
- Investigate quality issues and conduct root cause analysis; make recommendations and process improvements to leadership.
- Support accreditation process with C-TPAT, and PrimusGFS including audits as may be required, related training and documentation.
- Constantly overview and maintenance of C-TPAT, and PrimusGFS and FWP – internal SOP systems and processes.
- Ensure compliance with US Customs and FDA regulations, including surety bond requirements.
- Assess and determine instances when product should be pulled from inventory and not utilized for customer orders.
- Support the quality control process in the testing and review of product specifications to ensure compliance on part of suppliers etc.
- Ensure the final product meets the company’s high-quality standard before is delivered to the customer.
- Ensure standards and safety regulations are observed.
- Address and discuss issues and propose solutions.
- Document Quality Assurance activities and create audit reports.
- Maintain cleanliness in the re-packing area.
- Create training materials, operating manuals, and train staff.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years in leadership role and minimum of 3 years’ experience in Fresh Produce Quality Assurance.
- PCQI certification a plus.
- Knowledge of USDA grades and standards.
- Experience assessing quality in a food/perishables warehouse environment preferred.
- Ability to work in a cold warehouse environment a must.
- Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
- Insightful, meaningful, relevant supervisory skills coupled with experience and sound communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with ability to manage conflicting priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail and a passion for excellence.
- Desire to assess situations, determine a course of action, and relay that opinion based on facts.
- A genuine interest in ensuring we provide quality products to our customers.
- Self-directed requiring minimal supervision and hands-on approach.
- Collaboration - high level of initiative and proven team player.
- Ability to lift 30 pounds on a regular basis and to do so safely.

This is a direct hire position that pays 70k-77k depending upon experience.
