Summary

Reporting to the Director of Food Safety, the Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Clyde’s quality management systems and processes. The Quality Assurance Manager will manage a team of Quality Assurance Technicians across (3) shifts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Create, maintain, and validate quality processes by establishing and documenting product specifications, quality attributes and controls. Prepare and implement operations and QA standard operating procedures (SOP's) that support company programs and requirements. Drive continuous quality improvement through use of systematic tools and processes.
• Communicate quality objectives and provide effective training (and ensure adherence to standards) for operations, sanitation, maintenance staff, vendors and external contractors in basic food hygiene, GMPs, HACCP, allergen control, and other Company and regulatory food safety and quality requirements.
• Prepare quality documentation and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends including failed processes, stability studies, corrective actions, and re-validations.
• Ensure physical plant inspections are conducted on a weekly basis and reports are generated on each area (pest control, operational methods, maintenance for food safety, sanitation, personnel practices, etc.)
• Manage the Quality Assurance team including interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and developing employees; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Provide support to the food safety team ensuring food safety practices including regulatory policies, procedures, and practices are maintained to Company and regulatory standards. Provide support for food safety audits.
• Ensure compliance, and certification of HACCP requirements and other food safety programs and adherence to required food safety laws, regulations, corporate policies, and practices.
• Ensure key traceability, oversee vendor and inspection management programs, testing, vendor auditing, allergen, and microbial program compliance. Establish microbial program metrics. Achieve established metrics and Key Performance Indicators.
• Serve as the primary plant contact for customers and suppliers for all quality, food safety and regulatory issues.
• Monitor and meet Quality financial budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in food science, food technology, chemistry, or related field.
• At least 5 years’ experience in a food processing plant leading quality control programs.
• At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory/management capacity.
• Knowledge of the construction of and performance characteristics of packaging materials
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Excellent observation and analytical skills.
• Ability to work with data in Excel, Access, Word, and Minitab.
• Ability to handle numerous projects in progress at one time.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree related to food science.
• HACCP Certified & Quality related certifications (SQF/ASQ etc.)
• Bakery manufacturing experience.
