Quality Assurance Grain Probe

SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to conduct and maintain quality control of incoming raw materials in support of food safety programs. This position will sustain the Mission and Motto and Food Safety and Quality Statement of the Mennel Milling Company.

PRIMARY WORK SHIFT: Works shift as assigned and overtime as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Follow all food and personal safety rules and regulations in respect to GMP’s, OSHA, HACCP, the Global Food Safety Initiative, the US FDA Food Safety Modernization Act as stated in the FS&Q Statement, and sanitation guidelines as set forth by the company as listed in Corporate Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) and attend all required training sessions. Maintain the department/facility in an everyday audit ready condition.
• Conducts inspection and probe-sample for incoming wheat.
• Conducts evaluation of incoming wheat quality, including smell test, weight test, total damaged kernel test, heat damage test, insect damage; shrunken and broken kernel test, wheat classes, dockage, moisture, falling number, VOM test.
• Directs and monitors wheat segregation including weighing and unloading of truck wheat to the appropriate designated bins.
• Maintains wheat sample library and retain daily composite of per truck sample.
• Conducts Quadra-Mill test, NIR test and maintain data record.
• Accurately records grading results and test results to the AS400 and other data record systems.
• Communicates results in a timely, professional, courteous manner to proper personnel and request changes when needed.
• Samples all flour additives and ingredients; conducts quality test if necessary.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area; completes assigned sanitation duties and ensure Quality Assurance technicians are completing assigned duties.
• Maintains truck dump sanitation and working condition; check all instruments and equipment daily to maintain the working condition and maintain a record of this activity.
• Maintains scale calibration; insure proper unloading procedures and proper wheat destination.
• Maintains wheat grain bin inventory and record correct wheat weight in bins.
• Responsible to cover for other Quality Assurance Grain Probe Technicians when required or in their absence.
• Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform this job.

• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience in flour milling, food processing or other related manufacturing field is preferred.
• Maintains FGIS license.
• Ability to continue on-going education as required to perform essential duties and responsibilities.
• Ability to effectively prioritize and organize tasks and follow through to ensure completion of assignments in an efficient and high-quality manner.
• Ability to maintain open communication with both internal and external customers.
• Knowledge of and ability to operate Microsoft office software, Internet and intranet and other computer software to complete essential duties and responsibilities.
• Must exhibit a high aptitude of troubleshooting and the ability to problem solve.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, memos, procedures, and plans. Ability to write, complete checklists and other basic documentation and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information or data in one-on-one and small group situations to co-workers, supervisors, and managers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY:

Must use solid judgment when making decisions. Must have ability to quickly recognize and plan for changing work duties and events.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to conditions that are typical to a fast- paced manufacturing environment, including: moving equipment and machinery, dusty, hot/humid, and cold conditions; employee must be willing to work in all weather conditions, at heights, and in the presence of airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment usually requires the use of hearing protection. Work involves exposure to common wheat allergens.
