Work directly for a Middlesex County, NJ area company that supplies high quality oils and specialty ingredients to the beverage industry.
QC Lab Chemist:
Primary Job Responsibilities
* Quality Control (QC) testing and analysis support - flavors, flavor ingredient, emulsion, aroma chemicals, essential oils and specialty products.
* Performing Quality Control evaluation of all incoming raw materials/pre-shipment samples, intermediates and all outgoing finished products/pre-shipment samples
* Performing QC tests which includes appearance, organoleptic test, Specific gravity, refractive index, optical rotation, wet analysis for aldehyde, Gas Chromatography analysis, High performance liquid chromatography analysis, Absorption spectrum analysis, Flash point, particle size analysis for emulsion and powder samples and Ring test.
* Responsible for calibrating and monitoring all the lab instruments.
* Maintaining log book for all the instruments maintenance.
* Entering the QC test results into data base and creating certificate of analysis.
* Preparing all the QC documents as required by the customers.
* Sample preparation as per the formula provided by the developer.
* Performing lab distillation or any other lab processing as required.
* Responsible for understanding the Food Safety and Quality Management System and related activities, including SQF standards.
* Any and all other work related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Skills and Education Requirements
* Bachelor degree in food science or Chemistry or related technical field.
* 0-5 years" experience in Flavors/Fragrances lab preferred.
* Knowledge of Citrus Essential oils and their composition.
* Knowledge of Flavors and their ingredients.
* Knowledge and hands on practice of analytical instruments like GC, HPLC, and GC-MS.
* Experience of maintenance and trouble-shooting these analytical instruments like GC, HPLC and GC-MS.
* Experience of performing lab scale vacuum distillation.
* Leadership in managing the duties and resources for this position.
* Oral and written communications to team members, and record/note keeping
* Maintain initiative and persistence to complete projects
* Successfully work well in a team.
* Computer skills, primarily Microsoft-based Office/Word/Excel
* Must not be color blind and must have passed a color blind test.
* Must be able to demonstrate the ability to accurately describe sensory characteristics of most of the raw materials and finished products.
* Must have no tasting restrictions in order to accommodate a wide range of flavor types.
* Must be willing to follow basic sensory guidelines for working with clean palate (no perfumes/lotions/highly pungent ingested products)
