SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE:

Compiles data and operates computer in performance of routine clerical duties to maintain business records and reports by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Computer based data entry.
  • Types reports, business correspondence.
  • Files records and reports, posts information to records.
  • Makes copies of completed work.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Cross-reference ASTM to raw material standards.
  • Collect, enter, submit, and maintain job information packets.
  • Maintain various quality databases such as track.net and the CTR/MTR database.
  • Review all MTRs for incoming material.
  • Compile packets for New York City and other customers, as required, for review and release. Every mark number assigned for New York City requires a complete job packet starting with pipe used as well as testing done for the pipe, etc (i.e., elcometer readings and hand packed cement tests). Job packets will vary from customer to customer, depending on requirements.
  • Requests NYC inspections/testing and maintains NYC logs for materials.
  • General Housekeeping

SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assign tape measures and other equipment as needed, to back up Document Control Specialist.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • Competent in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Access data entry.
  • Familiar with internet use and searches.
  • Typing and data entry competency.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Visual Acuity


  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures transcribing viewing a computer terminal extensive reading visual inspection involving small defects small parts and /or operation of machines (including inspection) using measurement devices and /or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eyes.

Up to 2/3 of time, the worker is required to have:

  • The worker is required to have close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • The worker is required to have color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)

Less than 1/3 of the time:

  • The worker is required to have distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • The worker is required to have peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • The worker is required to have the ability to adjust visual focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)

  • General Supervision: The incumbent normally receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments.
