We are seeking a PV Civil Engineer to join GreenSpark Solar. The PV Civil Engineer will work with a team of PV Designers, Project Developers and other PV professionals to design, review, and finalize designs for both commercial and C&I PV projects, as well as the iterative process of adjusting designs to match real-world conditions at individual project sites.
The essential job functions of this position include:
● Assess ground conditions and related structural or civil issues from photos, site survey information, or on-site visits to evaluate potential project locations
● Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to guide projects through the permitting, approvals, and grant(s) processes from contract to completion.
● Confirm preliminary site data supplied by sales staff.
● Conduct/manage engineering site audits utilizing drone imagery and other technology to collect structural and electrical site information.
● Perform shade analysis and energy production modeling using SolarPathfinder, PVStudio, and Helioscope.
● Research and stay updated on current codes such as the National Electric Code, International Fire Code, state land use guidelines/regulations, and local building and zoning codes.
● Create array layouts, and structural racking plans, and preliminary stormwater management plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
● Coordinate with professionals and engineers on structural and electrical designs.
● File for all necessary permits, grants, and approvals.
● Understand and navigate utility interconnection issues.
● Review specifications and recommend engineering or equipment changes to achieve solar design objectives. Contribute to the development philosophy and offer new ideas, creative solutions, and leverage individual experience to improve the Company’s work.
● Provide technical direction and support to installation teams during the installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning, and performance monitoring.
● Implement and update standard operating procedures, quality control metrics, and safety standards for solar installation work.
● Maintain and update checklists for review or inspection of completed solar installation projects.
● Perform additional duties as assigned.
These are our education and qualification requirements:
● 1-5 years of experience in Civil Engineering required.
● Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Masters degree preferred
● Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
● Proficient in computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording, and analyzation software.
● Thorough understanding of Civil Engineering principles, practices, and tools.
● Thorough understanding of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings, bridges, roads, and other related structures.
● Thorough understanding of safety regulations related to assigned projects.
● Ability to identify and solve complex problems.
● Ability to be both creative and analytical.
● Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
● Knowledge of all applicable codes such as the National Electric Code and International Fire Code.
● Attention to detail and self-proofreading for accuracy.
● Demonstrated knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical designs.
● Ability to generate accurate, highly-detailed construction drawings using computer modeling software.
● Previous knowledge of solar power including formal education and/or certifications such as NABCEP Certified PV Installation Professional (preferred).
● Excellent time management skills with an ability to prioritize multiple assignments with tight deadlines.

Minimum Annual Salary: $90-105k
Weekly Pay
Three weeks (120 hours) of vacation time and 12 days (96 hours) of sick leave for the first year of employment, then flexible paid time off (PTO) after the first year
