About the Team/Role
Job Summary:
WEX Inc. is rebuilding and globalizing its Sourcing, Vendor Management, and Procurement functions. We desire candidates with a proven track record to help us build a global and impactful organization.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Procurement/Purchasing Manager to spearhead the acquisition of goods and services for our IT and Digital departments. As a key member of our procurement team, you will play a pivotal role in securing the best value solutions while ensuring optimal performance and cost efficiency.
How you'll make an impact
Primary responsibilities include both Category Management, as well as oversight, coaching and development of two Category Managers (supporting IT & Digital).
  • Category Management Responsibilities:
    • Manage a portfolio of IT & Digital categories, conducting market research, identifying and qualifying vendors, negotiating contracts, and managing supplier relationships.
    • The development of category management plans to support supplier consolidation and implement sourcing strategies that align with stakeholders business objectives and priorities, while optimizing total cost of ownership (TCO).
    • Stay current on emerging technologies and market trends, proactively identifying opportunities for innovation and cost savings.
    • Conduct cost analysis, benchmarking and value assessments to ensure best-in-class solutions are procured.
    • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for assigned categories.
  • Management and Team Leadership Responsibilities:
    • Oversee and provide coaching and development to two Category Managers supporting the IT & Digital departments.
    • Set performance goals and conduct regular performance reviews
    • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment for your team.
    • Delegate tasks effectively and empower your team members to take ownership and accountability.
    • identify and dismantle roadblocks that hinder employee performance and career advancement.
    • Collaborate with Procurement / Finance Leadership to develop strategies that support corporate objectives.
In order to succeed this candidate will need to be able to develop long-standing internal business partnerships in a fast-paced cross-functional environment. This position interacts with multiple IT and Digital customers and stakeholders, serving as the lead or secondary support resource for all sourcing initiatives for these indirect categories. The position will collaborate with the Procurement Team and Leadership in each functional area to establish both short and long term objectives and will lead cross functional teams utilizing standard procurement and category management principles to achieve their goals.
A combination of project management experience, critical thinking, an ability to communicate effectively, coaching, and strong negotiation skills will be required. Candidates are also expected to participate in M&A integration efforts to maximize efficiency and savings.
This role will report directly to the Director of Global Procurement.
What to Expect - First 90 Days:
  • First 30 Days: Integrate with Key Stakeholders and Procurement team to begin relationship building and gain understanding of current processes and strategic initiatives.
    • Start to build relationships and align with Key Stakeholders on current and future strategic initiatives that will require procurement support. Develop a regular meeting cadence as needed to support.
    • Align with Tech/Digital Category Managers and Procurement Leadership to review current workload responsibilities and Procurement policies / procedures.
    • Become knowledgeable on WEX Contracting and Vendor Onboarding processes and templates. Meet with Legal, Vendor Risk Management, and Sourcing teams for onboarding training.
  • First 60 Days: Evaluate the global spend under management and begin to identify opportunities to deliver cost savings and consolidate vendor base.
    • Quantify the global spend pool for the respective categories and develop a roadmap to improve spend under management.
    • Identify all key vendors driving the majority of spend within these respective categories and gain better understanding of products/services and contract attributes.
    • Start to identify opportunities to consolidate vendors and products to drive synergies where there is overlap across WEX entities (domestically and internationally).
    • Begin to populate the department contract pipeline with renewals, savings and vendor/product consolidation opportunities, and potential in-source (make/buy) options.
    • Identify at least one area of opportunity for a strategic category management plan that will help stakeholders maximize value and reduce risk, while also aligning to their business objectives.
  • First 90 Days: Improve Process Automation and assist with Procurement System enhancements:
    • Complete all training and become knowledgeable on current procurement systems, processes, policies and procedures.
    • Become a Coupa/Procurement subject matter expert that can train stakeholders on how to properly utilize these new tools to improve efficiency and contract visibility.
    • Support any system implementations and enhancement activities and drive user adoption and training.
    • Identify potential areas to leverage AI / ML capabilities.
    • Bring forward recommendations for tool and process enhancements.
Experience you'll bring
  • Required:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field.
    • Minimum 8 years Indirect Procurement experience, preferably in either a Category Management and/or Strategic Sourcing role for IT and/or Digital category.
    • Minimum 3 years in Procurement Management, Supervisory, or Team Lead role
    • Experience with Coupa or other P2P/CLM/Vendor Risk Management tools.
  • Optional/Preferred:
    • Relevant certifications (e.g. CPSM, APICS)
    • Training or experience with LEAN, PMP, and/or Six Sigma practices.
    • Experience working in the Financial Technology Sector.
The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX's total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
