Job Description
Title/location: Pulmonary, RN- Elmhurst Hospital Elmhurst, IL
Shift/Hours:
• Night Shift 7:00pm – 7:30am
• Day Shift 7:00am – 7:30pm
• FT: 36 hrs/wk
• PT: 24 hrs/wk
Weekend Requirement:
• Saturday/Sunday. Every 3rd weekend.
Holiday Requirement:
• Assigned to a rotating holiday track. To ensure you don’t work the same holidays year to year!
Responsibilities:
• Participate in pulmonary rehabilitation programs with patients to help them learn how to manage their condition or symptoms.
• Teach patients about medications and their side effects and instructing them on how to take their medications properly.
• Monitor the condition of patients during treatment to ensure that they are responding to treatment as expected.
• Record vitals at regular intervals throughout the day.
• Perform Diagnostic tests to diagnose a patient’s conditions.
• Determine the proper course of treatment for patients with chronic pulmonary conditions.
• Prepare and administer medications to patients with breathing problems.
• Educate patients on how to recognize when they need medical attention and how to manage their condition at home.
Must Haves:
License: IL RN license
Certification: CPR/BLS from American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
*ACLS can be acquired within 6 months of hire.
Experience: 1 year of acute med/surg experience required.
Education: Associate degree or higher in Nursing.
About the Unit:
Beds: 28
Patient Population: Adult; Pulmonary unit also has a general med/surg population.
Common Diagnoses: COPD, pneumonia, chest tubes, tracheostomy, and other lung conditions.
Nurse to Patient Ratio: Day shift: 1:4/5; Night shift 1:5/6
