Description
Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in the maintenance of streets, buildings, grounds and traffic control.
Examples of Duties
1. Performs repairs and operates heavy equipment in the maintenance of:
• Streets - including alleys, bridges, curbs, gutters and sidewalks, potholes, street overlays, seal coating, crack sealing, grading of dirt roads, right-of-ways, shoulders, parking lots and drainage ditches. Plows snow; operates and maintains backhoe, street sweeper, and grader.
• Buildings - including minor repairs related to plumbing, electrical and carpentry; graffiti removal; and custodial upkeep (vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning restrooms and carpet care).
• Grounds - including mowing, weeding, trimming, sprinkler systems, sidewalks, and snow removal.
• Traffic Control - including signage installation and street striping.
2. Monitors and assists the work of community service workers.
Other Duties
1. Performs other janitorial work as needed.
2. Assists with traffic control as needed.
3. Assists with street striping as needed.
4. Other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Basic knowledge of equipment, practices and procedures used in the maintenance of streets
Basic knowledge, skill and the ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and light and heavy equipment, such as mowers, tractors, pickups, dump trucks with plows, street sweepers, front-end loaders, graders, and skid steer loaders, street sweeper, asphalt pavers, asphalt rollers, crack seal trailers, asphalt compaction equipment, bobcats and other equipment as required.
Basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance including, pruning, watering and caring of plants, trees and shrubs.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry principles.
Basic skill in the safe and lawful operation of a motor vehicle.
Basic ability to follow oral and written instructions, both orally and in writing.
Basic ability to perform and carry out assigned jobs according to established procedures and by proper methods.
Basic ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance of streets, buildings and grounds.
Basic ability to maintain a good working relationship with fellow workers, supervisors and the general public.
Basic ability to work as a team member.
Education & Experience
Any combination of experience and training equivalent to graduation from high school and experience in construction or maintenance of grounds, utilities, buildings, roads or similar facilities.
Required Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
Colorado Driver's License. Possession of a Colorado Class B CDL Driver's License within six months of employment.
