Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform skilled work in Public Works Maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance and repairs as needed or required. Emergencies may require unscheduled overtime and/or call back. Normal operations may require modified working schedules at various times.
- Perform routine maintenance on all assigned vehicles/equipment.
- Perform snowplowing and shoveling as assigned.
- May perform plumbing, carpentry, or painting as assigned.
- Ability to use independent judgment in decision-making skills when performing the assigned task.
- Perform manual labor as required.
- Maintain records as established and/or needed.
- Promote harmonious relations within various divisions and departments, and with the public.
- Perform any of the various work listed under the following maintenance areas: Water/Sewer, Street, Parks, Garage and Buildings as assigned and qualified.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience operating light outdoor maintenance equipment (i.e. mowers, weed
whips, snow blowers, etc.). - Possession of a valid Minnesota driver's license and satisfactory driving record and
ability to obtain a Class B CDL w/ air brake and obtain a tanker endorsement within
6 months of hire date. - High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent experience.
- Ability to pass the pre-employment physical, including drug and alcohol testing.
- Ability to read and speak, understand and follow both written and oral instructions in English, including safety rules.
Supplemental Information
WATER/SEWER MAINTENANCE:
- Assist in the troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of the city's utility systems (i.e., exercise, operate and repair fire hydrants and valves, maintain drinking water wells, sewer lines, lift stations and water treatment plants following adopted standards and proper procedures).
- Perform gopher state locating of City's utility lines.
- Install, read and repair water meters.
- Sample City's drinking water for required standards including mandated additives including chlorine.
- Ability to use and understand the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor/adjust water supply system.
- Use camera to inspect elements of the City's sanitary and storm sewer system.
- Safely operate and perform basic and routine maintenance on equipment used to perform utility maintenance.
- Ability to carry the after-hours pager on a rotational basis.
- PARK MAINTENANCE:
- Perform duties such as painting, cleaning and repairing of buildings, tractors, mowers and playground equipment, bleachers, fences, ball field maintenance and hockey rinks.
- Operate and maintain such equipment as front end loaders, tractors, and self-propelled mowers, sweepers, dump trucks, litter picker, push mowers, weed whips and snow plows.
- Perform landscaping functions such as planting, trimming trees, laying sod, fertilizing, and mowing turf areas.
- Set up and take down portable band shell and band equipment.
- Perform minor plumbing and carpentry work as per ability.
- Assist in maintenance of City building interiors and exteriors and other systems as
assigned. - Ability to carry duty pager on a rotational basis.
GARAGE: - Assist in vehicle/equipment maintenance in City garage as assigned and qualified.
STREET MAINTENANCE: - Perform street maintenance work including such activities as resurfacing with blacktop, patching, grading, graveling, cleaning, signing and removing snow and ice.
- Operate trucks with or without such attachments as snowplows, water sprinklers, hoists, pumps and winches, steel or rubber roller and other light equipment as classified by the City.
- Perform service work on automotive equipment such as refueling with gas or oil, checking battery, washing, servicing and making minor repairs, replacements and adjustments.
- May perform duties on weekends, holidays and evenings as assigned.
- Painting crosswalks and centerlines.
- Perform maintenance and repair of municipal storm sewer catch basins and manholes.
- Ability to carry duty pager on a rotational basis.
