The Village of Machesney Park is offering an enticing career opportunity for a self-motivated and adaptable Public Works laborer.

Opportunity at a Glance
The Public Works Laborer performs semiskilled and manual work in the performance of various Public Works construction and maintenance activities. There may be an opportunity for future advancement within the department.

Position
This position conducts a variety of job duties and requires the applicant to follow all safety rules and regulations. The position is full-time and reports to the Public Works Director. Specific duties may include but are not limited to:

• Perform any combination of manual and semi-skilled tasks as assigned
• Maintenance activities:Streets – pothole patching, curb repair, inlets and drains, snow plowing

Parks – inspection of structures and mulch application
Village-owned facilities – routine maintenance as needed
Vehicles and equipment – routine maintenance items
Street signs and traffic signals – repair and replace as needed

• Ability to operate or be trained to operate various types of equipment from hand tools to heavy equipment such as skid steers, backhoes, and end loaders

The position is required to respond to emergencies due to weather, street maintenance issues, or natural disasters on a 24/7 basis, and therefore, residency is required within 25 miles of the Village border.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• 3-5 years of experience in Public Works operations or similar job-related field preferred.
• Possess a valid Illinois Driver’s license; including a Class C non-CDL or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Pass a pre-employment background check, physical (ability to lift 75 pounds), and drug screen.

Compensation
Starting rate is $24 - $29 per hour dependent on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.
