PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER
The Town of Windsor, CT is accepting applications for a full-time Public Safety Dispatcher. This position is part of the UPSEU bargaining unit.
Your typical work activities will include:
- Receive, monitor and transmit emergency and informational communications
- Operate a variety of Public Safety communications equipment including 911 telephone equipment, computer aided dispatch systems, and multi-channel radio systems
- Assign and dispatch appropriate emergency vehicles, equipment, and personnel in accordance with policy and procedures
- Answer emergency and nonemergency calls for assistance
- Request information from other Public Safety personnel, the general public and other agencies
- Maintain contact with all units on assignment

- Possess the ability to exercise excellent judgment in evaluating emergency calls
- Ability to multitask and prioritize especially under stressful situations
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully to patrons and team members
- Share and demonstrate the Town of Windsor’s organizational values of integrity, innovation, passion, partnership and responsiveness
- Have a High School diploma or equivalent
- Have a minimum of two years of experience in Public Safety
- Applicants with Tele-communicator, Emergency Medical Dispatch, E911 or NIMS certifications preferred
- Successful completion of Town of Windsor’s background and drug screening process (includes screening for marijuana)
Compensation and Schedule:
- Starting salary is $63,251 annually. Town employees enjoy a comprehensive benefit package, including but not limited to, health, dental and life insurance, tuition reimbursement, short term disability, and a defined contribution retirement plan.
- Shift work required: including days, nights, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the department. Priority choice of shifts are bid based on seniority.
