Minimum Education:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
Work Experience:
- Ideally, a candidate would have two years' experience writing professional content for multiple mediums. However, candidates with fewer years' experience demonstrating project-based relevance will be considered.
Job Duties:
- Develop content under an organization-wide communications strategy.
- Write and edit content in Associated Press (AP) style for various mediums, including newsletters, NYSTRS.org, mass emails, social media posts, and internal messaging.
- Work with internal departments to develop content as needed.
- Monitor NYSTRS publications in all formats to ensure brand consistency.
- Participate in discussions of the communications strategy to support project requirements.
- Write and proofread all annual reports in collaboration with the Communications & Outreach team.
- Undertake other projects as needed to support the department and the Retirement System.
Preferred Skills:
- Ideally, a candidate would have proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Familiarity with the Adobe suite (e.g., InDesign) would be preferred but not required.
- Superior writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Experience planning and creating multimedia content.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Minimum qualifications include a commitment to collaboration, exceptional customer service, time management skills, and flexibility to pivot as work demands require.
- Strong communication skills to various audiences and through various mediums are essential.
- Ability to distill complicated language into easily digestible content.
- Commitment to learning about the System's audience and stakeholders.
Anticipated Deliverables:
-Newsletter Content:
- Write and edit Your Source (active member newsletter) 4 issues annually, approx. 8 articles each.
- Write and edit Resource (retired member newsletters) 2 issues annually, approx. 10 articles each.
- Write and proofread NYSTRS Administrative Bulletins and Delegate News emails up to two per month each.
- Proofread and edit Employer Reporting Tips one per month.
- Write and proofread content for periodic mass emails in various areas.
- Collaborate on internal communications as needed.
Misc. Information:
- Work Shift: Monday-Friday; 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
- The role is expected to follow a hybrid schedule: on-site at the Albany office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; remote Monday and Friday. Temporary accommodations can be made as needed.
- Two rounds of interviews will be conducted with the possibility of a third.
- The first interview will be virtual; the second will be in person at NYSTRS' office in Albany.
