Back to all Jobs Public Health Nurse - Immunizations Clinic Closes On: May 1, 2024 at 11:59 PM CST Department: Health Department Job Status: Full-Time and Part-Time Status: Accepting Applications Details: Please include resume and cover letter at time of application Apply Now Advertisement Position Announcement Job Title: Public Health Nurse - Immunizations Clinic Salary: $25.7728/hour Position Status: Part-time or Full-time Hours of Operation: M-F 8am to 4:30pm; occasional evening hours Position Summary This Public Health Nurse position is in the immunization program at the McLean County Health Department. Immunization program staff are often the first contact families have with Public Health and play an important role in educating the public on the importance of vaccination. The position offers on the job training, however additional consideration will be given for education and experience in immunizations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provides intake services for children and adults receiving vaccinations by utilizing an EMR system Completes written paperwork Assess immunizations schedules Administers vaccinations to children and adults Participates in community-based immunization clinics Assists in the preparation of reminders and other notices of immunizations. Provides vaccine education to children and adults Provides emotional support to children and adults experiencing immunization anxiety Maintains refrigerator/freezer logs and assists with maintenance of equipment Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of modern theory and practices in professional nursing.

Knowledge of immunization schedules and side effects. Knowledge of common physical illnesses, obvious symptoms, and appropriate medical terminology. Knowledge of the methods used to calm anxious patients or relatives.

Ability to draw vaccines from container and inject into children and adults safely. Ability to respond to each patient and family with empathy and respect. Ability to accurately read immunization records and manufacturer's instructions.

Ability to communicate in a friendly, pleasant, and courteous manner. Ability to read, understand, and apply federal, state and county policies. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, other clinic employees, patients, and family members.

Required Qualifications Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois or in a state in which Illinois has a reciprocity agreement. Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree (preferred); also experience in Public Health, working with children, and immunizations (preferred). Illinois Driver's License, safe driving record, and proof of insurability.

Physical Attributes/Demands This position requires activities such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing stairs, lifting, holding children, moving and carrying light objects, operating office equipment, and driving an automobile. Work Environment The work is performed in a clinic and may involve exposure to body fluids, anxious, angry, or combative patients. Bloodborne pathogen exposure precautions are needed and personal protective equipment; gloves, gowns, masks, are provided and worn as needed.

Some work is performed in an office environment and involves exposure to normal, everyday risks that require normal safety precautions typical of offices.
