Job description

The Public Health Accreditation Program Manager is responsible for leading the ongoing Public Health Accreditation process by working closely with staff, leadership, and community partners. The accreditation process provides a framework to achieve and exceed nationally recognized standards for Public Health best practices.
Representative Duties

  • Advise leadership on accreditation status.

  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings to engage staff, department leadership, and community partners in the accreditation process.

  • Maintain current knowledge of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) standards and measures, participate in various accreditation meetings and trainings.

  • Act as the single point of contact between the department and PHAB.

  • Lead an accreditation team of staff members from various service areas of the department.

  • Conduct assessments of the department's accreditation readiness.

  • Coordinate plans and initiatives essential to achieving accreditation, including workforce development, health equity, performance management, quality improvement, and strategic planning.

  • Maintain a system to monitor and track status of measures, plans, and accreditation readiness.

  • Maintain a documents management approach for proposed and selected documentation.

  • Originate, prepare, and distribute department policies and plans.

  • Ability to think strategically to meet both the needs of accreditation and the department.

  • Ability to use technology to organize documents and engage team members.


Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • Experience as a Public Health Accreditation coordinator.

  • Experience working for and an understanding of the operations of the County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department or other local Public Health department.

Minimum Qualifications

A combination of education, training, and experience resulting in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. An example of qualifying education and experience includes:


Program Manager I: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a program related field. In addition, two years performing supervisory, administrative, analytical or fiscal work in a program related field.
