Public Arts Manager

The position is located in the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (DCCAH). The mission of the DCCAH is to provide grants, programs and educational activities that encourage diverse artistic expressions and learning opportunities, so that all District of Columbia residents and visitors can experience the rich culture of our city.

The Public Arts Manager is responsible for developing and carrying out the goals of the Public Arts program for the agency. Incumbent interfaces with both district and federal agencies as well as private partners while managing the team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Represents the City’s interest while implementing a community-based Public Arts program; develops, implements, and administers a fiscally sound program. Submits grant projects; submits all related financial reports; oversees and maintains accurate operational and budgetary files and records on program related projects; plans, develops, implements, and administers budgetary plans and/or fiscal activities. Plans, develops, directs, evaluates, and implements a public art plan, initiatives, and all aspects of public art projects to include art project planning, developing, scheduling, installation, tracking, coordinating artwork selection process, administering multiple project budgets, contracts and programs for artist and artwork which includes approval of concept design, proposal selection, installation of completed projects, identifying the scope of services to be provided by the artist and monitoring performance milestones and payments made to artist.

Communicates program and project updates to the Public Arts Committee as the direct liaison between the agency and the commission. Develops, plans, schedules and manages art-related events. Collaboratively resolves procedural, operational, and other work-related problems such as project scheduling, resource acquisition and allocation, and personnel. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, assign work to subordinates based on priorities, develop performance standards and evaluate work performance of subordinates; give advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both work and administrative matters; hear and resolve complaints from employees, identify developmental and training needs of employees, providing or arranging for needed development and training; find ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed.

Qualifications and Education

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 12 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience: Knowledge of current developments in public art concepts, planning, and criticism; Comprehensive knowledge of contemporary visual art, and the history of public art projects and programs

Salary Range: $99,513 - $139,318 Per Annual, based on funding

Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS): At-will employment applies to the MSS. All positions and appointments in the MSS serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.

Residency Statement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
