Job description

LinQuest is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Public Affairs / Media Communications Specialist to join a high-performing team supporting Headquarters Space Training and Readiness Command (HQ STARCOM).
An active TS//SCI clearance is MANDATORY.
In this role, you will provide professional, high-quality Public Affairs communication products (i.e., news releases, fact sheets, messaging, point papers, written media responses, etc.) to communicate HQ STARCOM activities to public and internal audiences.
A strong candidate will:

  • Develop communication strategies and products to educate the public on STARCOM mission, priorities and accomplishments
  • Prepare draft responses for media public queries and press releases
  • Develop draft inputs/updates for the STARCOM HQ website and social media platforms with photos, videos, relevant stories and information
  • Develop, write and edit media and outreach preparation packages for interviews / engagements
  • Provide STARCOM HQ leadership critical communication advice and counsel
  • Use high quality cameras to take and edit professional photos with software (e.g. Photoshop)
  • Prepare and provide draft organizational publications with high quality photos for internal and external audiences
  • Take and provide printed copies of official photos of STARCOM HQ members
  • Provide high-resolution STARCOM focused edited photos
  • Provide photo journalist capability and story-telling through imagery
  • Create and edit videos and develop graphics and design for websites, social media, power point presentations, fact sheets and educational / outreach materials
  • Capture broadcast quality videos utilizing microphones and audio recorders (e.g. Commander's Calls, Town halls)
  • Provide basic live-stream video setup assistance (e.g. Zoom, Webex)
  • Monitor and communicate news articles and critical events regarding USSF or STARCOM.
  • Update the STARCOM mission brief using PowerPoint and PREZI software
  • Develop, edit and print signs and pamphlets incorporating graphic design and pictures

Required Skills/Experience:
  • An active TS//SCI clearance is required for this position; however, a Secret clearance may be considered
  • 3+ years of experience with DoD Public Affairs, including providing Public Affairs advice to senior leaders, conducting media operations, or communication planning or implementation
  • Experience with using social media tools and tactics
  • Accustomed to professionally working with internal / external senior leaders, offices, and action officers.
  • Experience with providing strategic advice, technical guidance, analysis and recommendations
  • Ability to multi-task and produce high-quality products in a high-tempo, collaborative environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess excellent research, analysis, and data gathering skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and deliverables with minimal guidance

Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • Defense Information School (DINFOS) Public Affairs Qualification
  • Experience with knowledge management, communications, and process improvement initiatives in a DoD or US government environment
  • BA/BS degree in Communications, Public Affairs, or related field

Compensation:
  • The salary for this position ranges from approximately $85,000 to $105,000 depending on relevant experience and qualifications.
