Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provide behavioral health services within the scope and practice as defined by the Arizona Nurses Association's Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners.
2. Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate an effective and efficient treatment program that will appropriately meet the needs of patients utilizing best care practices, industry standards, organizational guidelines, appropriate accreditation standards, and applicable federal laws, including HIPAA.
3. Obtain comprehensive health histories, request special diagnostic and laboratory tests, interpret test results, and develop comprehensive psychiatric treatment plans.
4. Provide mental health assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in identified areas; provide medication management for patients; and maintain appropriate health records. A common diagnosis for individuals returning to society from incarceration is adjustment disorder. Returning and adjusting to life in society can be a very emotional and stressful circumstance for any individual.
5. Prescribe pharmaceutical therapy consistent with medical evaluation, treatment plan and current standards of practice.
6. Refer clients for more specialized or inpatient interventions as clinical situations dictate.
7. Participate in a team management approach to patient care/treatment.
8. Maintain appropriate files; develop and follow through on treatment plans within organizational guidelines; and prepare reports on the clinical management of patients. Help with putting together Policy and Procedure related to medical and medication.
9. Maintain quality care through participation in peer review, policy development and quality improvement programs.
10. Maintain appropriate documentation of clinical services, including all necessary billing information. Specifically, responsible for co-authorizing residential and IOP group notes.
11. Maintain and update professional knowledge and proficiency through continuing education, staff meetings, workshops and serving on special committees.
12. Collaborate with counselors, and other treatment team members to coordinate effective client care.
13. Responsible for timely and accurate completion of medical records including assessment, treatment plans, progress note, outcome measures and billing entries.
