POSITION: Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

FLSA STATUS: 0.25-0.4 FTE, Exempt, Non-Union Position (10-15 hours per week)
COMPENSATION: DOE- $70-$75 per Hour
POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking an experienced part time Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our Mental Health Services team. The current position is for an individual who will provide psychiatric medication support services for our Recovery and Wellness Department where we provide treatment services to support clients with substance abuse. This position reports to the Director of Recovery and Wellness.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Completes Mental Health/psychiatric assessments of assigned cases;
- Prescribes medication for substance use treatment (Medication Assisted Treatment, or MAT) as appropriate and provides follow-up evaluations consistent with best practices;
- Provides services to both adults and adolescents;
- Collaborates with other members of the team to develop and execute treatment plans;
- Collaborates with other health care providers as appropriate;
- Provides training and psychiatric education to stakeholders including internal staff, community partners, and similar as directed;
- Conducts outreach activities to increase knowledge of and engagement in MAT services either for existing clients or as a standalone treatment;
- Complies with all agency’s policies and procedures;
- Follows Drug Medi-Cal Organized Delivery System charting and documentation requirements and Agency regulations;
- Provides psychiatric education to patients and families;
- Participates in program planning and Utilization review and Quality Assurance;
- Directly administer prescribed medication (such as injections), as needed
- Other duties as may be required by the Director of Recovery and Wellness and/or Medical Director.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Current California State License and Registration as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner;
- Medication Assisted Treatment/Buprenorphine Waiver (Preferred) [May be able to provide support for qualified candidate to obtain this waiver, if not already in possession.];
- Ability to provide services in English (required) and Spanish (preferred); if not able to provide services in Spanish, comfortable with using phone-based interpretation services;
- Experience or willingness to be trained on use of medication to treat individuals with substance use disorders;
- Experience working with justice-involved adults who have moderate to severe mental illness and substance use disorders;
- Experience working with populations with varying lifestyles, ages, sexual orientations, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and economic status.
- Culturally competent and able to work with a diverse population, including formerly incarcerated individuals who are experiencing homelessness and severe and persistent mental illness and substance use;
- Knowledge of psychological trauma and co-occurring disorders, its effects on individuals and systems, and best practice treatment preferred;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with participants and staff of all levels;
- Ability to determine the needs of individual situations regarding diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, taking an effective course of action, and follow through with treatment plans;
- Integrity to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner;
- Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly desirable.
- Demonstrates and models excellent “customer service” orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at all levels within and outside the agency.
- Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when needed.
- Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance and transmit public and confidential information needed by various parties.
- Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
- Valid CA Driver’s license
