This is for a telecommunicator during their Recruit Trainee phase. You must complete the classroom academy training and obtain the required certifications. After the academy, you will start the job training (OJT) and work towards being cleared to independently fulfill the following positions:

1. Calltaker

2. Fire Tactical Radio Operator (FTRO)

3. Fire Simple Operator (Fire Dispatch)

Essential Functions: Receives incoming telephone calls for police, fire and medical emergencies and non-emergencies and determines an appropriate course of action for handling the call through a process of priority dispatching in accordance with established written directives and practices. This includes being able to read scripted protocols from Priority Dispatch. Dispatches, monitors, documents, and maintains communications with responding police, fire or emergency medical services using computer automated dispatch (CAD), radio, telephone, and other technology necessary to process requests. Ensures each call for service is dispatched with speed and accuracy. Maintains communications with callers to obtain vital information and provide dispatch instructions for police, fire and medical emergencies. Follows all Standard Operating Policies and Guidelines issued by St Joseph County Communications. Possess the ability to multitask through various mediums, including by not limited to CAD, telephone system, mapping programs, messaging systems, and other necessary resources. Work closely with others as part of a team.
