Flint Hills Resources (FHR) Project Capability is looking for a Project Sr. Electrical Engineer who will provide engineering support for projects to advance the FHR Vision and increase business value creation.

Location: Rosemount, MN Pine Bend Refinery with periods of travel to support project execution (FHR sites, engineering contractors, etc.)

As FHR accelerates new and transformative ways to improve value creation through technology, engineering resources are critical to efficiently engineer, install, commission, and integrate new technology to achieve the vision.

By focusing on electrical distribution design, electrical equipment design and large-scale application of automation and technology (smart MCC) and the integration into the FHR facilities, a Project Electrical Engineer is a key resource needed to advance the FHR Vision of rapid transformation. As part of the Project Team, the Electrical Engineer is the liaison between many of the FHR Capabilities that leverage electrical equipment design - such as the Electrical Asset Management, Electrical Operator and Maintenance. They will bring vision alignment from the various capabilities into the project scope development, marginal analysis of technology options for key decision recommendations.

From early phases of the project, the Electrical Engineer leads the marginal analysis of scope definition and technology selection with the various capabilities to provide the fit for purpose technical solution to meet the project objectives. Often times, this technology selection requires challenging existing and creating new engineering specifications and practices for the new innovative technology application to the FHR assets. Through the project life of engineering to procurement to construction to integration and commissioning, the Electrical engineer is the technical resource the FHR Project Capability is relying on to bring cost effective solutions to the challenges rapid electrical Infrastructure transformation brings.

The successful candidate is expected to have a broad and in-depth knowledge of industrial application electrical distribution, coordination, design, acceptance testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting. They will have to leverage their personal experience, the broader FHR and industry networks to identify the technical details to successfully deploy new technology.

What You Will Do In Your Role

  • Expected to provide detailed review and approval of the deliverables from engineering contractor to support the engineering and procurement effort. This will require active involvement with the engineering contractor to answer specific engineering development questions, follow up on and help resolve design issues.
  • Expected to support for key witness inspections of Factory Acceptance Testing and site-based Acceptance Testing. This expectation extends to skid or modular equipment with installed electrical equipment at the fabricator.
  • Expected to provide input into construction quality planning, commissioning planning and oversite to electrical system testing procedures and execution oversight for mechanical integrity and commissioning assurance for pre-start up safety review sign off.
  • Expected to seek out risk proactively and prevent/mitigate the risk.
  • Support the RFI and NCR processes.
  • Partner with electrical asset management in early project phases to assure alignment of their long-term plans with the current project objectives.
  • Manage the SKM model including the production, review and updating of load flows, fault current, relay coordination and arc flash studies.
  • Review / Approve HAC analysis for each project, complete assessment per API RP500 and FHR standards, and complete final documentation.
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of electrical work experience, may be project or industrial support
  • Experience in evaluating new technology for application in an industrial facility
  • Experience utilizing a phased/gated project execution model
  • Experience with engineering contractors and review/approval of designs and specifications documents
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Interdisciplinary knowledge or background (mechanical, chemical, instrumentation, controls, electrical, etc.)
  • Motivation to find and pursue opportunities to improve project competitiveness
  • Working knowledge and application of VFD's, SKM Model and HAC analysis
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, NEC, UL and CSA
