St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Project Specialist for our Coastal Management Team, which reports to the Emergency Management Department, located in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.

The St. Johns County Coastal Management team, now housed in the Emergency Management Department, is responsible for engineered beach projects. Coastal Management coordinates with the public and funding and regulatory agencies to ensure the successful implementation of coastal projects that preserve and enhance the beaches of St. Johns County.
Examples of Duties:
The ideal Coastal Management Project Specialist candidate must possess St. Johns County’s core values of compassion, innovation, and trustworthiness and must work well in a collaborative team environment. Some of the specific tasks include but are not limited to:
- Provides direct support to the Project Management / Administrative Manager with variety of specialized technical duties to enhance departmental operations and development.
- Coordinates administrative and support services for the department’s projects and initiatives. This may include procurement of materials for projects; coordination and monitoring of inventory; facilitation of public meetings; grants and financial administration; preparation and review of operational reports; and other assigned research or analysis.
- Prepares reports and analyses. These may include financial statements, revenue and expenditure models, strategic planning, longitudinal studies, site plans, maps, agenda items or other special projects, as assigned.
- Assists staff by responding to more complex inquiries from the public regarding department’s programs and function. Resolves vendor or customer issues.
- Participates on assigned committees, task forces, or other community outreach programs, and represents the department as assigned.
- Maintains a full-time presence on the job.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications:
Candidates for the Project Specialist are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related course of study to the occupational field. A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the nature of the work in order to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with three to five years experience or service.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
