Public Works currently has vacancies for the position of Project Manager I (5502) within our Infrastructure Design and Construction Division.
The Infrastructure Design and Construction Division
The Infrastructure Design and Construction Division of San Francisco Public Works, led by the City Engineer, provides engineering planning and design services, project management and Construction management services for a range of capital improvement projects supporting the City's streets and infrastructure. In addition, our Bureau of Street-use and Mapping, which includes the office of the County Surveyor, ensures that City sidewalks and streets are safe and accessible by permitting and inspecting the use of the public right of way and is responsible for records of survey, lot line adjustments, mapping subdivisions and condominium conversions.
Job Description
As a Project Manager I, you will lead multidisciplinary teams comprised of engineers and consultants through the planning, design, construction procurement, construction, and closeout of construction contracts. We have four (4) projects that you may be assigned to, The Transbay Howard Streetscape Project, the 11th Street Safety Improvements Project, The Mission Street Safety Improvement Project and the 1st Street Safety Improvement Projects. Each project has a substantial degree of technical complexity, and to successfully complete them, it will require detailed monitoring of the various work disciplines and coordinating with other City agencies as well as outside organizations such as PG&E, Comcast, AT&T, CBDs, and others.
Important and Essential Duties:
As a Project Manager I, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Oversee the scope, schedule, and budget for all phases of project delivery from planning, design, and Construction through financial closeout.
  • Prepare and review scope statements, schedules, budgets, funding plans, memorandums of understanding, permit applications, grant applications, grant invoices, design packages, payment packages, official memos, presentations, press release packages and other project documents to oversee project delivery.
  • Ensure the work is coordinated with private utility companies and City infrastructure projects.
  • Facilitate and support regularly scheduled Design and Construction coordination meetings with our stakeholders to discuss progress and resolve any conflicts.
  • Ensure projects are delivered to City standards, public expectations and provide project updates to the eleven (11) City Supervisorial Districts.
  • Conduct meetings and make presentations to management, committees, commissions, approval agencies, clients, community leaders and the public.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of education, training, and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain this would be:
1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Planning plus four (4) years of responsible Architectural, Engineering or Construction Management experience; OR
2. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in another field plus six (6) years of responsible experience in a field directly related to the project; OR
3. Eight (8) years of Architectural, Engineering, or Construction Management experience in a field directly related to the project; OR
4. Valid California registration as a Professional Engineer or Architect.

Selection Procedures:

The selection process will include an evaluation of applications in relation to minimum requirements. Depending on the number of applicants, the department may establish and implement additional screening mechanisms to comparatively evaluate the qualifications of candidates. If this becomes necessary, only those applicants whose qualifications most closely meet the needs of the department will move forward in the recruitment process.
Minimum Qualification Supplemental Questionnaire (MQSQ):
Candidates may be required to complete an MQSQ as part of the employment application. This MQSQ is designed to obtain specific information regarding an applicant's experience in relation to the Minimum Qualifications (MQ) for this position. The MQSQ will be used to evaluate if the applicant possesses the required minimum qualifications.
