Position Overview

Align seeks a a hands on and technically savvy IT Infrastructure Project Manager with 2 to 6 years of relevant experience. We would also consider a systems engineer that is looking to transition their career to more of a technical project management role. Data Center experience is preferred with a focus on application and workload migration projects. This person is expected to be hands on during migration projects helping with analyzing client's data center infrastructure, working with senior PMs to development migration plans, overseeing the migration events and providing technical guidance and hands-on troubleshooting as needed. You will develop the skills to be an IT Transformation Advisor and Consultant, including learning from Infrastructure Architects and other SMEs to develop the skills required to perform technology assessments and how to author current state to target state roadmaps for our clients. An ideal candidate would be a systems engineer that has recently transitioned to more of a PM role or a hands on PM that is technically savvy. You will be working in fast-paced enterprise-level environments requiring exceptional written, verbal and presentation skills. This is a highly visible role that will have constant interaction with key clients. This role will manage complex projects, working in a matrix environment to plan, schedule and execute projects for various-sized enterprise clients (infrastructure, storage, network, server and IT appliances, etc.).

  • This role is hybrid role based out of our New York City or New Jersey offices, but will be primarily working remotely
  • The position in its nature requires some travel to client sites, which at times could be up to 50%.

Responsibilities
  • Works with Program Managers or under the guidance of a Senior Project Manager to manage technology infrastructure transformation programs with a focus on data center migration
  • Manage data center migration process with an understanding of risk mitigation and chain of custody for physical servers
  • Develop the skills to be a IT Transformation Advisor - Learn from Infrastructure Architects and other SMEs to develop the skills to create technology assessments and learn how to author current state to target state roadmaps for clients
  • Assist with creation of Statements of Work and support the sales process
  • Manage the project teams including; Align, the client and the vendors throughout the project
  • As required, act as a hands on resource for data center inventories, physical server installation (rack and stack) and technical troubleshooting
  • Learn our tools such as Device42 (Discovery, Asset Management and Dependency Mapping for Data Center and the Cloud)
  • Gather documentation and build and develop a delivery plan for all the work streams
  • Help create migration plans and wave event planning (i.e., run books, execution plans)
  • Advise clients on potential risk, and manage client expectations
  • Continually improve the process and framework and update our migration solution
Qualifications
  • Two to six years of technical IT Infrastructure project management or coordination experience
  • Any prior Data Center Migration, Cloud Migration or IT Infrastructure Transformation project experience (assessments, migrations, consolidations, virtualization projects, etc.) would be preferred
  • Candidates must have strong project management and organizational skills, with advanced skills in the following areas:
    • Task Management and Priority Setting
    • Risk and Issues Management
    • Strong Coordination Skills (Organize Meetings)
  • A solid hands on technical background, including an understanding of data center infrastructure
  • Must be willing to help with physical inventories; server and network device installation (rack and stack); and physical / logical troubleshooting as needed
  • Networking: Understanding of TCP/IP, Netstat, Ping, Nslookup, Ports, Protocols
  • Systems: Understanding of Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, Redhat)
  • Understanding of Public Cloud Solutions including models (Iaas, PaaS, SaaS) and providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Infrastructure Management Tools (Device42, Splunk, ect)
  • A holistic understanding of IT infrastructure inclusive of server, storage, network, database, systems, DR/business recovery and continuity practices, etc.
  • Familiarity with with application and workload dependencies, architecture and service level requirements
  • An understanding of application and workload move dispositions (cloud, P2V, V2V, P2P, Lift and Shift) and the methodologies around each would be a plus
  • Excellent communication, organization and writing skills are required
  • Solid project management and project documentation skills: budgeting; project schedules and dependencies (Microsoft Project);project monitoring and corrective action
  • Communication mechanisms including project status reports and dashboards, meeting agendas and minutes and executive reports and presentations
  • Able to execute change control, quality, risk management and communications throughout the project
  • Strong experience with documentation, communication and collaboration tools: MS Project, PowerPoint, Visio and Office tools to manage plans, charts, reports and documentation, etc.
  • Must be able to travel as needed
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
