Job description

We have a truly unique and exciting new opportunity in the Digital Infrastructure sector! One where you get to combine your project management, technical and client experience skills.
In this new role, you will manage all aspects of a geotechnical engineering project to ensure that project work is being safely completed on time and within scope and budget for a wide variety of clients within the Digital Infrastructure sector which is seeing significant growth and opportunity.  You will also have the opportunity to work along-side our top consultants in this space, leveraging Terracon's competitive advantages such as Stage1, Pivvot and Compass to deliver an exceptional client experience while ensuring the project is completed per its contracted scope.  This role is for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, and in a variety of subsurface conditions and geological settings, as projects are located nationwide. You will have opportunities to lead the coordination of work for multiple teams and serve as National Account Manager for a number of clients seeing revenue growth in the sector. Specifically, you will monitor project progress and performance against the project plan while you troubleshoot and recommend or resolve operational problems in order to minimize delays.  You will coordinate with APRs and SMEs to make sure these individuals have opportunity to engage throughout the project, particularly at critical junctures, and you will be involved with approving invoices, preparing change orders, and collections.  You will be responsible for resource management, project scheduling, budgets and forecasts, and working with external vendors, subcontractors or contractors.  You will conduct meetings and prepare reports to communicate the status of the project to project team and client.  You will set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet project targets and milestones.  You will have responsibilities to communicate with the client and deliver work products to satisfaction of the client.
Curiosity is key to this role.  Asking good questions both to learn our client's approach to site selection, design and construction and to learn from the local experts in our offices where the projects are being executed.  Technical aspects of this role may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and collaborate with construction teams to assure compliance with plans and specifications.  Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams. 
Clients in this sector are willing to pay for the value and experience you bring to their projects, and a chargeability goal of 60 to 70% will be expected.
 
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Manage all aspects of medium to large sized projects.
  • Works with client or NAM to define project scope, schedule and budget, and assist with proposal preparation.
  • Work is regularly performed under strict client NDAs, responsible for ensuring Terracon teams execute services while maintaining client confidentiality.
  • Design, communicate, and implement a project plan for completing the project.
  • Support Terracon teams by independently performing selected segments of larger projects.
  • Write and prepare routine design memos and complex engineering reports detailing services provided, findings, and recommendations.
  • Support Terracon teams in their planning, scheduling, conducting, and/or coordinating detailed phases of assigned project work. 
  • Take action to resolve operational problems and minimize delays.
  • Identify, develop, and gather the resources to complete the project. This may include evaluating complex laboratory and field data; preparing calculations, designs, reports and work specifications; developing project schedules, budgets and forecasts; and selecting materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
  • Partner with other departments or offices to secure specialized resources for the project.
  • Conduct meetings to ensure Terracon teams are managing the detailed phases of more complex and larger projects, and effectively communicating geotechnical conditions and design requirements with the client's design teams.
  • Serve as a client relationship manager and interact directly with client and project team on developing scope of services, communicating project progress and findings and recommendations.
  • Set priorities, assign tasks, and coordinate project staff to meet project targets and milestones.
  • Coordinates with APR to ensure appropriate oversight is in place and sufficient time allowed for reviews of all critical junctures.
  • Work closely with Terracon teams including local office project engineers, senior consultants and APRs to gain understanding of geotechnical conditions and design requirements for more complex and larger projects.
  • Develop understanding and be aware of project-related risk.  Be familiar with what could go wrong on a project and how to protect the Company.  Be familiar with company risk policies. 
  • Coordinates with accounting for financial management of business intelligence, invoicing and collections.
  • Lead safety efforts for team and ensure team follows safety rules and guidelines, including preparation and compliance with approved safety plan.  Responsible for creating and modeling a safe work environment; demonstrates safety practices.  Promote pre-task planning for all projects.  Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.  Perform quality control review of proposals written by others. Lead the development of new clients having a national footprint, and on-going management of client with goal of client becoming a national account.
 
 Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in technical discipline practiced by the Firm including Engineering or Geology.  Minimum 5 years' related experience.  Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 10 years' related experience.
  • On track to become a Geotechnical APR.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.
Preferred Certification:
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) 
  • Master's degree in Engineering preferred.
  • National Account Manager (Part-Time or Full-Time NAM) experience preferred.

The national standard salary range for this position is $72,400-$112,200. The base range may be adjusted based on the specific location of the applicant. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
