Project Manager will plan, lead, implement, and manage new and existing projects in The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences with adherence to values of respect, high performance standards, teamwork, and professionalism. The breadth of activities and projects across the department may involve workflow efficiencies, aid in our ambulatory expansion, aid in our translational research expansion, and enhance services in patient care, education and research. Projects will be strategically planned with outcome metrics and align COM mission. All projects will have budgets that will be proposed and estimated to consider capital expenses related to instruments and equipment, staff and faculty efforts, and proper consideration of clinical operations, academic operations, revenue cycle, compliance, I/T and corporate services. Inclusion of appropriate stakeholders to understand the impact of various internal and external impacts, such as regulatory changes or system modifications, will involve cross-functional teams including as appropriate clinical-academic-research operations, revenue cycle, and corporate services. The Project Manager will provide recommendations on scope, timelines, resources, organizational and operational risks, develop and maintain project charters and detailed project plans based on analysis of tasks, staffing requirements, space, interdependencies and timelines, oversee accurate documentation on scope, progress, outcome metrics, and problems and analysis. Additional responsibilities include interim and final reports with timely communication, appropriately escalate any/all concerns regarding project obstacles or safety concerns that may cause risk to reaching objectives, goals or administrative targets. The Project Manager needs to communicate with the leadership team that may include the chair, department administrator, or other faculty leaders. The manager can seek guidance for project prioritization, but also must be able to support multiple projects across the department continuum of clinic, education and research. The manager must have basic competencies in using some tools and software associated with certified project management industry standards such as DMAIC. Follow through and accountability to assure appropriate ticketing, tracking in internal systems, and to represent the department on assigned committees. Basic experience with effective meeting facilitation includes agendas and minutes virtually and in person with ability to travel to satellite clinic locations and research labs may be necessary to perform job duties. Interactions for job duties include faculty, staff, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, learners, and sometimes even patients.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree coupled with 3-5 years of project management experience, preferably in healthcare. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, coordinate, direct and control all aspects of projects/tasks with skill in objectively organizing resources, establishing priorities, assess outcomes, and meet deadlines. Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills in order to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and energize development of integrated, creative solutions among stakeholders. Demonstrated effectiveness in conveying information both in writing and verbally. Exhibits emotional intelligence with strong interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. Is able to build collegial relationships, driving both collaborative work teams and results. Shows aptitude for diplomacy and negotiations.
Preferences: Master's degree in business, healthcare, or related field. Project management professional (PMP) certification. Has consulting experience or past project management employment in a healthcare environment. Health care revenue cycle and/or medical billing/coding and collections experience. Experience with Epic electronic health records.
