This position functions as an Intelligence Analyst for the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC). This position performs various duties such as, (but not limited to) the collection, analysis, storage, and dissemination of criminal intelligence for the detection of international terrorism, domestic terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, smuggling, contraband, gang activity and other criminal activity in order to protect the citizens of the State of Michigan while ensuring privacy and protection of personal identifiable information (PII). This position will work closely with departmental resources and various employees of other agencies including local, state, and federal law enforcement as well as public agencies in relation to intelligence gathering, analysis and dissemination.

Required Education and Experience
Education for Departmental Analyst 9-P11
Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.

Two years of professional experience, including one year of experience equivalent to the intermediate (10) level in state service.

Education

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
Experience
Four years of experience as an advanced 9-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.
OR
Three years of experience as an E9, E10, or E11-level worker in an ECP Group One classification.
OR
Two years of experience as an experienced level worker in an ECP Group One technician or paraprofessional classification.
OR
Two years of experience as a first-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.
OR
One year of experience as a second-line supervisor in an ECP Group Three classification.
*Paraprofessional classifications are those requiring an associate's degree or two years of college.
Educational Substitution
College credits may be substituted on a proportional basis (one year of college education may substitute for one quarter of the required experience) for up to one half of the required experience.
Alternate Education and Experience

Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school and the equivalent of at least two years of full-time active-duty experience at or above the E-6 level in the uniformed services may be substituted for the education requirement.
Additional Requirements and Information
  • Thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures and facility operating procedures.
  • Ability to plan, develop, assist with research, evaluate, and improve Intelligence Unit programs.
  • Must also have computer knowledge in the use of department approved software (Data IQ, OMNI, STG Database, Prisoner E-Messaging System, Prisoner Phone System, Visitor Tracking, etc.) and hardware.
  • Must effectively communicate with others and maintain favorable relations with both departmental and non-departmental personnel.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to review policies and procedures in the management of information and intelligence.
  • Ability to work independently and perform self-initiated assignments based on assessment of need.
  • Ability to communicate verbally/in writing (reports, evaluations, etc.) with various law-enforcement officials at all levels of government.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

Vacation and Sick Leave: Eligible full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 personal days and 13 sick days per year that may be rolled over to the following year if not used. Eligible employees also receive an additional day each year for community service or school functions.
Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
Paid Holidays: Eligible employees receive 13 or 14 paid holidays each year including New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Friday, Christmas Eve and Day.
