ABOUT WALLA WALLA FOUNDRY
You've probably seen sculpture built at Walla Walla Foundry but didn't know it. Walla Walla Foundry is one of the largest contemporary sculpture foundries in the world. Originally founded in 1980 as a bronze casting foundry, it now employs around 100 people and produces work for well-known, contemporary artists in a range of materials and through multiple processes. In 2021, Walla Walla Foundry was featured in The New York Times and described by artist Jim Dine as an "extension of the artist's hand."
ABOUT THE JOB
Manufacturing unique art pieces and projects is exciting and complex. The Project Manager 1 plays a key part in coordinating, tracking and quality-controlling varied built projects. Working closely with Sr. Project Managers, admin staff, the President, craftworkers (fabricators, painters, wax workers, etc.), as well as artists to produce projects on time and to high quality standards, no project or day is the same.
At first, this role will focus on learning and understanding the processes, procedures and technical considerations, our safety culture, and getting to know our talented employees and craftspeople. Working primarily within the Metal Shop and Paint Department, assigned projects and responsibilities will start with small builds and edition work. As time and knowledge grows, this position will become more integrated in the design/development process and manage larger projects, as well as supervise people and/or project teams.
Requirements
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE FOR PROJECT MANAGER 1
- Strong interest in modern industrial design or contemporary art, with a deep understanding of current artists and art trends or a strong desire to learn
- 3+ years of experience as a project coordinator or manager in industrial, fine art production, fabrication (such as welding, industrial painting, or construction), or another project-based build industry. Working knowledge of welding and/or industrial paint techniques, tools and/or products desired
- 1+ years of experience supervising others desired. Enjoys coaching employees and collaborating as a team to achieve goals
- Ability to innovate in building, constructing, and creating. Adept at reverse engineering from the end result to ensure safe and efficient construction
- Exceptionally organized with a proven track record of effectively managing time, projects, and people to ensure deadlines are met. Leverages checklists and other collaborative documents to streamline workflow processes
- Approaches work with a professional attitude, with a focus on understanding and exceeding client's expectations
- Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with frequently changing tasks and priorities
- Committed to safety, consistently integrating safer approaches into planning and execution
- Proficient in technology and computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace. Experience with ERP software and using Adobe Suite to create polished documents highly desired
- Resides in or interested in relocating to Walla Walla, WA
THE FINE PRINT
This is an onsite position in Walla Walla, WA. (Small towns are all the rage right now, and ours is especially cool.) Foundry work hours are 7 am to 3:30 pm. Much of your work will take place in an office environment. And you'll regularly go into the production environments (which can be loud, dirty, noisy, cold, hot, and where the magic is) where PPE is required. Occasional travel for work or installations required.
Project Manager 1 is an exempt role with a salary range of $67,725 - $91,312/annually, DOE. Generally, new employees start between the min and mid of the range.
