Ramboll is seeking motivated and qualified candidates to join our team in our Albany, New York office as a Project Geologist, Scientist or Engineer. To succeed in this role, candidates must have a B.S. or M.S. in Geology, Environmental Science, or Engineering, and 5 to 8 years of technical and field investigation experience.

Join our Environment & Health Department

As our new Project Geologist, Scientist or Engineer, you will be part of an interdisciplinary team providing innovative and sustainable site solutions to an international client base.

Ramboll currently has an opportunity in our Albany, NY office for a Project Geologist, Scientist or Engineer to implement environmental investigation and remediation projects. This is a growth position for the right candidate to develop skills for managing technical and financial aspects of progressively larger, complex projects with varying levels of direct supervision depending on the project size and complexity. In addition, a strong technical education, professional demeanor, and desire to learn is a necessity.

The successful candidate will contribute to multiple different projects under the direction of senior scientists/geologists/engineers and be responsible for duties that include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support larger, complex investigation and remediation projects under both RCRA and CERCLA programs, with a strong focus on subsurface investigations.
  • Function as a task manager/field team leader during execution of investigation projects involving soil boring completion, monitoring well installation, and sampling of environmental media (soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, air).
  • Effectively lead and/or mentor less experienced personnel in field and office activities.
  • Provide oversight of field crews and contractors; complete detailed field documentation such as job safety analysis (JSA) forms and safety observations.
  • Develop technical scoping documents (work plans, quality assurance project plans, health & safety plans).
  • Compile and tabulate field and analytical laboratory data for inclusion in summary reports.
  • Take a lead role in the evaluation of field/analytical data and the preparation of technical reports.
  • Work with others to develop cost estimates and procure subcontracted services and supplies.
  • Work with project coordinators/managers, using strong interpersonal and organizational skills to ensure projects are completed on time and budget.
  • Spending approximately 25 to 50% of annual working hours in the field.

  • B.S. or M.S. in Geology, Environmental Science or Engineering.
  • 5 to 8 years of technical and field investigation experience, including data management, technical writing, soil/groundwater sampling, soil excavation oversight, well installations/development, soil vapor/indoor air sampling, subcontractor oversight, remedial activities and other associated activities under state and federally regulated programs
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Completion of the OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER course, plus current refresher.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and lead a team.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, client focus, and the ability to work effectively in teams.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Solid technical writing and communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Should be able-bodied as this position requires physical exertion such as periods of standing; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; lifting; recurring bending or similar activities in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work with a variety of field meters/test kits, instruments, pumps, data loggers and other equipment.
  • Working knowledge of computer software including MS Office and Adobe products.
  • Experience with technical computer software (ArcGIS, CADD, aquifer test analysis, etc.) a plus.

At Ramboll, your base pay is only part of your overall total compensation package. At the time of this posting, this role is likely to be compensated at an annual base salary between $77,000 and $86,000.  Actual pay may be more or less than the posted range, depending on numerous factors, including experience, geographical location, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and skill level, and does not include bonuses, overtime, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
