We do this by striving to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels welcome to be who they are-with the freedom to exchange ideas, think innovatively, and listen to each other and customers in meaningful ways.

If you are excited about this opportunity but do not meet every single requirement, please apply! You still may be a great fit for this role or other open roles. We are seeking candidates who model our values: invest in every relationship, lead with curiosity, champion diverse perspectives, turn inputs into actions, and uphold trust through integrity.

We are currently seeking an experienced Director of Data Science to join our dynamic and motivated Data & Analytics team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in data science concepts such as statistics and machine learning; as well as a passion for working with business stakeholders to identify problems, implement solutions, and assess their impact.

You will be in a leadership role leading, nurturing, and introducing best practices to a team of data scientists. You will also interface with senior leaders and a wide variety of team members to plan and execute on the organization's data science strategy. In your day-to-day you will manage team contributions to a diverse project portfolio. This involves helping ensure quality of work, project scoping, hands-on coding, delivering/measuring impact, and stakeholder management. You will influence and work closely in a cross-functional team of product management, software engineering and other data professionals.

The Work:

  • Lead and nurture a team of data scientists, ensuring their effectiveness in delivering solutions and long-term career growth.

  • Develop and maintain a strong degree of hands-on knowledge across the entire existing data science portfolio, while being able to initiate and launch brand new initiatives.

  • Facilitate collaboration between data scientists, engineers, and cross-functional teams to streamline data access and model deployment for machine learning and experimentation needs.

  • Lead project squads leveraging the design, plan, build development cycle, promoting and ensuring adherence to best practices in project management and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.

  • Be an advocate for AI/ML based data consumption patterns and educate the business on prudent and meaningful areas to deploy and utilize data science resources, ensuring they meet both organizational needs and regulatory compliance.

  • Work with business leadership to identify, scope, obtain support, and execute on a variety of data science solutions, leveraging the right tool from a toolbox of simple analysis, traditional ML, through to Generative AI and beyond.

  • Strategize the use of cloud platforms like Databricks, AWS, and GCP to enhance model lifecycle management, MLOps practices, statistical rigor, and deliver highly robust AI Products within a data mesh.

  • Stay current and promote adoption of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to ensure the company remains at the forefront of data engineering best practices in the compliance space.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience with at least 5+ years of solid hands-on work in data science, statistics, machine learning, or similar.

  • 1+ year of experience in people management or technical leadership

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong leadership, communication and management skills with the ability to independently influence organizations, people and projects.

  • Expertise in explaining complex technical work to non-technical stakeholders, with a strong foundation in coding.
