Pay Rate: $81,735 - $134,433
Project Engineering Geologist/Geological Engineer
Delve Underground has an immediate opening for an Engineering Geologist or Geological Engineer with 6-10 years of relevant experience to join our Portland, Oregon team and assist us in delivering a combination of transportation, heavy civil, tunneling, and underground projects. This position offers a great opportunity for a motivated, career-oriented candidate that enjoys the prospect of working with a tightly integrated team of geologists and engineers. This position will support regional projects being managed within the Pacific Northwest Region, but also supports project work across the United States, Canada, and Australia.
The preferred candidate will have experience in one or more of the following areas: engineering geology, geologic engineering, mining (surface and underground), natural hazards evaluation and mitigation, and tunneling. Delve is a highly collaborative design environment that utilizes in-house structural, civil, and hydraulic design support to deliver solutions for our clients that focus on innovation and practicality.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and characterize soil and rock ground conditions for geotechnical design.
- Evaluate geologic and seismic hazards.
- Perform geotechnical engineering evaluations and analyses for soil and rock slopes, landslides, tunnels, and shafts.
- Preparation of technical reports and other documents.
- Management of small projects and tasks on larger projects.
- Oversight of staff engineers and geologists for both field and office work such as development and execution of field reconnaissance and investigation programs.
- Perform field work, as required, in support of design development and project construction. Assignments may range from site investigations to oversite of construction activities such as ground support installation and face mapping.
- Work as integral member of a team on complex, multi-discipline projects.
- Demonstrate good writing and communication skills to work with internal staff and clients.
Qualifications:
- BS or MS in Geology, Engineering Geology or Geological Engineering, including participation in a geologic mapping course.
- Strong field observational skills, including geologic mapping, and borehole logging.
- Experience in characterization of soil and rock for engineering applications, including characterization of rock mass and discontinuity properties.
- Familiarity with geomechanical analysis software including SLIDE, DIPS, SWEDGE, and UNWEDGE.
- Proficiency with applying GIS to geologic problems.
- The ability to access steep slopes and traverse difficult terrain, utilizing rope access methods, where necessary
- Ability to manage a number of concurrent assignments and priorities, and supervise junior staff on project tasks.
- Strong analytical and technical communication skills.
- Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Washington and Oregon or be able to obtain within 1 year from the date of hire. Licensure as an Engineering Geologist is preferred.
- Willingness to travel for short-term and medium-term assignments to remote locations.
- Driver's license required.
